Happy New Year!

Wishing you a joyous and happy New Year!

Thank you, Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce & Friends!

The Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce raised $41,200 at the 2024 Grapes, Grains & Giving event — more than TWICE their goal of $20,000, and it couldn’t have come at a better time! With the rising cost of milk, eggs, beef and chicken, along with the increase in clients each month, the Holly Springs Food Cupboard can’t possibly express how incredibly grateful we are to have received this magical gift this year. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who worked so diligently to ensure this was a smashing success!

Cupboard Chickens Are Off to Enjoy Permanent, Well-Earned Vacation

There is a big change coming to the Cupboard back yard, and it is a bit bittersweet.

The little flock of Food Cupboard chickens has been awarded a permanent and well-earned vacation to a local farm for their fabulous volunteer work. The Cupboard is now chicken-less!

The fluffy friends have been a real source of joy and amazement for hundreds of Food Cupboard volunteers for more than a decade. Youth have learned about chickens, life cycles, proper animal care, and why chicken eggs won’t hatch (no roosters).

The “girls” have eagerly dined on watermelon, meal worms, old mushy figs, anything leafy green, and a bunch little things that crawl. And through all this they have graciously donated their eggs for clients each week while reluctantly allowing many excited youth to anxiously hold them for thousands of pics!

We thank the “girls” and, most importantly, the person who made this all happen: Dr. Marilyn Jesrani, a local retired middle school science teacher (pictured above in the lower left corner).

Marilyn is amazing. She has tirelessly managed the “chicken project,” ensured the chickens' safety, recruited and trained volunteers (called Chicken Rangers) to work with the chickens, and carried the full cost of feed and bedding to keep the chickens healthy and happy.

Around the Cupboard Last Month

More proof that we really DO have the best volunteers!

The Cupboard had a last-minute pickup of 6 pallets (over 9,000 pounds) of food from Lowes Foods that we needed to collect. Within an hour, 10 volunteers were on-site at the store to load, transport, and unload for storage the food donated by customers of Lowes Foods through their Friends Feeding Friends program. Extra special thanks to our volunteers from Kirk of Holly Springs for their immediate responsiveness… and their pickup trucks!

The Food Cupboard was able to distribute 75 turkeys to compliment last month's holiday distribution, thanks to the Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston Holly Springs office and the Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston Cary offices. Thank you both so much for allowing the Cupboard to receive turkeys from the #turkeysforthetriangle campaign!

The Triangle Parents of DHH Children Hitch-Up group got together and designed cards for Cupboard delivery clients last month. What a sweet and festive treat!

Many thanks to Duke Pediatrics for holding a food drive and providing the Cupboard with much needed staples for clients!

Thanks so to Hunter for hosting a personal food drive with an impressive load of donations.

Sunset Ridge North has been delivering food donations to the Cupboard for 13 years! Last month, Luke Nakhla and his mom, Kristin, helped bring in a wonderful load of donations. Thank you!

Britney Kensmoe, family and friends went on a shopping spree to bring the Cupboard much-needed food donations, including lots of cereal. The donations helped replenish supplies as more than 400 boxes were distributed in one week alone. Thank you so much!

Thanks to Black Dog Bottle Shop for hosting a Pintsgiving event, for which they donated $1 for every pint sold to the Cupboard.

Thank you, Thales Academy of Holly Springs for a food drive with much-needed donations. We are so grateful for the staff, students, and parents!

The Holly Springs High School Student Council brought loads of much-needed food donations last month! They also helped by sorting the food, loading it into cars, and delivering it into the Cupboard. Thank you so much!

Holly Springs Elementary School held two winter concerts this year and encouraged everyone attending to donate food to the Cupboard! What an encore to two wonderful performances!

This is the second year that Benjamin Passwaters has offered a $10 donation to the Food Cupboard for every photo of a Thanksgiving meal he receives on turkey day! Last month, he and Jeff Zelno dropped off checks totaling $750, with a little help from his inspector Judson Root. What a fun and creative way to share holiday memories while also giving back to the community!

The Holly Springs Food Cupboard is very thankful to First Bank for awarding the Cupboard a $2,500 “Power of Good” grant!

We had an amazing time handing out part of the baking supplies that the Fill the Gap Holiday Baking Drive dropped off this week! Our clients were extra happy to be given extra baking supplies, especially during this holiday season. Thank you so much to everyone who donated.

Primrose School at Holly Grove is back with another great food drive this year. Christie brought in the donations and some really cute boxes!

A big thank you to Pack 356 for nonperishable items that went directly onto Cupboard shelves!

Cecilia brought the Cupboard lots of donations for her senior project at Middle Creek High School. Thank you so much!

The Villages at Pecan Grove Apartments in Holly springs braved the cold and dropped off a bunch of donations last month.

Thank you so much Comet Garner Apartments for helping keep our shelves full this holiday season!

Cupboard Garden Activity

The Cupboard is closed for the winter. Thank you to the many amazing volunteers who helped during the warmer months. We're anticipating reopening for volunteer work in late February.
