Upcoming Service

The Waters We Bring

Rev. Jaimie Dingus

10:45 AM, Sunday, September 10, 2023

Each of us brings unique gifts, perspectives, and joys to our community. And in turn we bring our challenges, our grief and our disappointments. In love, in community, and in ritual we can hold together more than we can hold alone. You are invited to bring a small container of water from your home or from a place that is special and sacred to you, to be joined with our collective waters. Please come in joy to celebrate our Water Communion.

As a part of this special service, we ask everyone to bring water from a place special to you, to be included in the Communion.

Helping Native American People and Letter from Southern Region UUA

Each Sunday we perform a land acknowledgment, and we encourage our members and friends to learn more about how we can support native groups. Please take the time to read more here.

Beloveds in our Southern Region,

You have been much on my heart. Recent threats of violence to multiple congregations in Texas and devastating shootings in Florida and North Carolina have me feeling like the need to take shelter and to protect our communities and each other is simply never ending. And I know that connection and communal care are the answers we need in the face of such tragedy. I am also sitting with photos of intense flooding in FL and reflecting on how we are living into the impacts of climate disruption in all of its forms – heat, floods, fires, tornadoes, and more.

I want to be sure you know that you have the committed support and profound love of UUs across the country, including from the members of our national staff. In the renewed wake of violence in this nation, there is not one question in my mind about the urgency of how we care for one another and bear witness to the needs of the world around us. Racialized violence, resistance to gun control, legislative violence, and the use of fear to promote controlling ideologies are just some of the ways people are being targeted in already challenging times.

I know that I need to remain connected to all of you when the days are difficult. I know that the impact of our response is greater when we ground ourselves in our values and show up together to proclaim that another way is possible. Beloveds, I believe in us. I believe that we can renew the moral witness and prophetic action of the progressive religious left as we join together for all that is to come. The time for us to live the values of our faith every day is right now.

With love,

Sofía

Property Day, Saturday, September 9, 2023

Maintaining the church building and grounds is important to support the mission of UUCH, and you can help. This Saturday, September 9, we'll meet around 9 am and work to early afternoon, but any amount of time would be helpful. No special skills are needed for tasks such as replacing burned-out light bulbs or cleaning the courtyard and playground, but if you have some electrical experience you can help replace light fixtures. If gardening is more to your liking, the flower beds and vegetable garden need tending and some invasive shrubs need to be removed. Join us for camaraderie, fellowship, and pizza! For more information, contact the Property Committee at property@uuch.org

New happenings in Adult Religious Education starting in September

Sunday Morning Adult RE

Starting in September, adults can meet twice a month in the Adult RE room at 12 pm for a time of discussion that stimulates the mind, heart, and soul! So grab your coffee and a snack and head over!

The schedule is as follows:

On the 2nd Sunday of every month, Gary Hitt will facilitate discussions on Major Issues of the 21st Century: Climate change. Mass migrations. Amazing, potentially disruptive advances in technology, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cryptocurrency. Pandemics. Terrorism. Gun violence. An aging population. Worker shortages. Water shortages. These are major issues that we will face in the 21st century. What is being done or should be done to address these issues? The discussion will be selected by attendees. Email garyhitt150@gmail.com with your suggestions. PLEASE NOTE: SEPTEMBER 10 there will be no meeting due to Gary being unavailable.

On the 4th Sunday of every month, June Norton will facilitate a discussion based on the book, Trusting Change, by Karen Hering. Whether you are living through significant personal transitions or navigating a world reshaping itself faster than ever, the book offers ten skills for living on the threshold, as well as spiritual practices and inspiration for connecting with your own inner wisdom. You do not need to read the book to attend. If you need a copy, please contact Teri Thomas, adult.re@uuch.org

It is highly encouraged that you provide your contact information to register for Adult RE. There may be changes to the schedule that will need your notification.

Questions? Need childcare in order to attend? Register at adult.re@uuch.org
