It’s been nearly two years since the Coronavirus lessened its grip on the world, and many of us are still recovering. We continue to rebuild ourselves and our families, the kind of resiliency that makes us human. Hope is being able to see the light at the end of what feels like a very long tunnel. This is how Eric Canady describes his feelings, after finding Duchesne Clinic post-Covid.

“I was in a dark spot. I was in a dark place. I mean, my knee was screwed up, I was jobless. If it wasn’t for bad luck, I felt that I wouldn’t have any luck at all. It wasn’t until I arrived here and filled out the application and I qualified. Simply qualifying, that was the biggest light I’d seen in about 2 years from the dark spot I came from. And it made me so happy. Basically it gave me my life back. It made me so happy.”

"Basically it gave me my life back. It made me so happy.”

Eric was hurt on the job in April 2020, unable to work. This led to a Workers’ Compensation case but eventually Eric lost his job, his health insurance, and nearly his home. He heard about Duchesne Clinic through a few acquaintances and initially became a patient to address his work-related injury. During a thorough intake checkup on his first visit, he was surprised by the additional health problems that surfaced.
“In the midst of this, coming for my leg, I found out that I have diabetes. And I’m like, oh well, déjà vu all over again, here we go again. But with the medicines and the stuff that you guys have given me, my diabetes is under control now, and things are so much better now. Thanks to you guys, I don’t have any more sleepless nights. I don’t have to worry about that anymore.”

Caritas Clinics always try their best to make patients feel at home, sensitive to how stressful a visit to a medical clinic can be—especially when a patient is feeling sick. Everyone, from the front desk staff to the providers, to the care coordinators, take it upon themselves to make that process as smooth as possible. That’s the first step in building trust, minimizing their fears and creating a safe place. It's something that stood out to Eric when he stepped into Duchesne.

“You all are so friendly….I mean man, good lord. You have a great crew here.… I can honestly say here with the Duchesne Clinic, I feel like you are all my brothers and sisters…. I feel the sincerity and the loyalty and most of all the love. I want to say to everyone out there that has a health issue, no worries, Duchesne clinic is here. Just come on down and see if you qualify. I guarantee you will not regret it.”
