Career Fair Turnout of 400+
Surprises Organizers

The 2022 Contra Costa Spring Career Fair, held June 28, was a huge success! With some 425 job seekers attending and lines out the door, attendance far surpassed our expectation of 100 participants.
The big turnout for the event, which featured recruiters from the United States Postal Service, Amazon, Southwest, BART and other companies, was surprising because employers, for months, have had trouble filling vacant positions.
"I am as eager as you to find out what is going on," WDBCCC Business Manager Patience Ofodu told the CBS News reporter. "We're going to be reviewing the data after this to find out who showed up, why they showed up, does this mean that the market is turning, that the job seekers are really ready to go back to work?"

Inclusivity Project Bolsters
Black-Owned Small Businesses

The Inclusivity Project connects Black entrepreneurs and Black-owned small businesses with the capital and mentorship they need to start and grow their businesses. Sponsored by the East Bay Small Business Development Center, the initiative seeks to help Black business owners create jobs, services, and opportunities within their neighborhoods — all adding up to meaningful community impact.

When the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776, leaders sought freedom and liberty for American citizens. Opportunities to live life on their own terms.

Every organization plays a role in helping others achieve “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” At the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County, our role is to help individuals and businesses achieve the American dream through equitable economic growth.

Job Seeker Finds Career
That Helps Support Her Family

Due to increasing inflation, Alma Zamora and her family found it difficult to live on her husband’s income only. She decided to return to work, but as a Latin woman, language was a barrier in her career exploration.
Alma discovered the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program through Rubicon Programs and was assigned Lubna Hanif as a career coach.
With Alma’s goal of becoming a certified nursing assistant (CNA), Lubna helped Alma find a training program with Opportunity Junction. Now Alma works as a state-certified CNA, earning $21 per hour.
“Working with Lubna has been a life-changing experience,” said Alma. “She is very empathetic and professional. Despite my doubts, my sessions with her truly helped me move forward with my education.”

All at no cost to you.

Employers: Are You Aware of Our Subsidized Worker Program?
|
CCWorks is Contra Costa County’s subsidized worker program, helping employers find and fund job-ready employees--all at no cost to the employer.
CCWORKS provides a substantial wage subsidy to employers who hire eligible job seekers for full- or part-time positions throughout Contra Costa County. Participating CCWORKS employers may qualify to receive wage subsidies equal to the California state minimum wage.
