July's Featured Yorkie

Meet Rocco!

If someone would have told us that when we rescued Rocco in August 2010 that we would have him for 12 years, we would've been really surprised! We picked him up from a house with 5 rescue yorkies, and boy, did he want to get out of there! When he was younger, he wanted to run really fast on well kept fields, loved going to the beach, and riding in the car with his head out the window. And told us in his own way that he was a studly dog....

He always slept with us, and followed me everywhere. He's so sweet that children would ask to pet him, and he would just sit there patiently waiting.

About 2 years ago, when he went blind, and now deaf, he decided not to get up on furniture anymore, and made a place for himself on the bathroom floor. I put in a dog bed, where he now lives, and call it Rocco's condo. He still goes for 2-3 walks a day, sometimes reluctantly, sometimes with enthusiasm, and gets excited for his fresh pet for dinner. As long as he is well, loves his treats, and can go for walks, his quality of life is good. He will be 18 in September. Every day is a gift. We love him very much,

Mary Elizabeth's Corner

Hi Everyone,

We hope you are enjoying this lovely Indepdeance Day weekend wherever you may be.

Dan, Karen and I are staying home and mostly  poolside since the weather has gifted us 90 degree days.

Our rescue has been pretty slow everywhere.  We had a couple of dogs that we tried to get and  after jumping through hoops to make things happen people changed their minds and did something different with their dogs.  We heard about another little  dog in a shelter that was so neglected his coat had matted to his skin and he was in so much pain no one could get near him. We offered to pay for him to be sedated and groomed but haven't heard back from that shelter as of yet.

We are still in need of more volunteers and helpers everywhere so if that feels like something that might interest you please visit our web page and fill out an application someone will call you. www.YorkieRescue.com.

From our house to yours we wish you a very Happy Fourth of July weekend, enjoy the fireworks and all the freedoms that our country has to offer.

love from MaryElizabeth and Dan
