What are impact fees? Why do Plat Dates Matter?

Impact Fees

In addition to the cost of the meter, Austin Water applies Impact Fees (Capitol Recovery Fees) to any connection made to the city utility system. This fee allows for maintenance of the city systems and repairs or updates to infrastructures that are worn or aged.

The Impact Fee is an essential part of enabling Austin Water to provide safe, reliable services to our customers. Fees are prescribed by Texas Statute 395.016(d) and clarified in City Land Development Code Sec 25-9, Article 3.

Plat Dates

The Plat date is used to determine Impact Fees based on a tiered system of cost assessment. Beginning 10/01/2023 an additional plat category will be added.
