Road Construction Updates
The Village’s roadwork projects are underway and progressing on-schedule. Chickamauga Lane has been fully resurfaced and the contractor is installing new pavement on Oak Grove Circle and Oak Grove Drive, with completion expected soon, weather permitting. Resurfacing of Port Clinton Road from Route 83 to Forest Glen is expected to be complete by mid-June.

The Lake County Public Works Department began construction to replace the force main that runs from Three Lakes Drive, along Robert Parker Coffin Road and into the Archer parking lot. The project is expected to be finished by the end of July (weather permitting). Traffic may be limited to one lane at times and allowed to pass under the direction of flaggers.
Donations and Collections
The Village’s collection bin for clothing and textile donations is accessible 24 hours a day, year-round, in the Archer Municipal Parking Lot, conveniently located in the downtown area; click here for a complete list of accepted items. The program is made possible through a partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO). If the bin happens to be full, items can be left in sealed plastic bags next to it. Please note: pillows, rugs and shoes are not accepted.

SWALCO is holding two waste collection events in June at its Gurnee facility. On Saturday, June 11, the free household chemical waste drop-off is open for residents. Click this link for a list of accepted items. On Wednesday, June 15, a collection for the disposal of latex paints, single-use propane cylinders and fire extinguishers will take place. Visit SWALCO to schedule your appointment and for more information.
Fight the Bite!
Mosquitos and ticks continue to be prevalent in Long Grove. West Nile Virus is a threat from mosquito bites, and there is no treatment available. Warning signs and symptoms include headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea or rash. The best way to prevent bites and reduce the risk of infection is by using insect repellent and wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants at dawn and dusk. Mosquito breeding grounds can be controlled by larvicide, which destroys mosquito eggs and is safer for the environment than spraying.

The Village contracts with Clarke Control Services to test and treat active breeding areas on public property. While spraying is permitted, homeowners and/or HOAs can contract privately with Clarke for larvicide mosquito control services by calling 630-894-2000 or using its portal, or choose another service provider.

Lyme disease is transmitted by the bite of an infected deer tick, also known as the black-legged tick. Ticks are most active in warm weather and live in wooded areas, tall grasses, weeds and brush. Typical symptoms of Lyme disease include fever, headache, fatigue and skin rash. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system. Learn steps you can take to protect yourself and your pets against tick bites, and watch a video on how to properly remove a tick.
