Special Focus Tour: Dining with Shakespeare

April 16, 2024 | Agecroft Hall & Gardens| 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm | Richmond

It’s almost William Shakespeare’s birthday! In commemoration of the Bard, join tour guide Tracy Weldon for a look at culinary customs during Shakespeare’s lifetime. What was dining like in Elizabethan England? What are medlars, lamb’s wool, and other spring ingredients used for? A brief talk is followed by a tour through seasonal displays in Agecroft Hall’s Great Hall, Dining Parlor and Tudor Kitchen. Then take home some period recipes to try in your own kitchen! (This tour will also be held on April 30th and June 15th.)

Special Focus Tour: Shakespeare's Garden Tour

April 21, 2024 | Agecroft Hall & Gardens | 10:30 am - 11:15 am | Richmond

In honor of William Shakespeare's birthday, enjoy a guided tour of Agecroft Hall’s unique Shakespeare Garden. William Shakespeare’s writings reflect beliefs in witchcraft, fairies, and the "language of flowers” that were common throughout Elizabethan England. Learn about this and other Tudor-style gardens from a Shakespearean perspective. Don’t forget comfortable shoes for this all-outdoor tour. The tour requires walking on grass, gravel paths, and stone walkways. The route has several stair steps.

In Memoriam~

We are saddened to share news of the passing of dedicated VAM member Brianna Morris last month. Brianna served as the Executive Director of the Westmoreland County Museum in Montross, VA, and was an engaged museum leader in our tight-knit Northern Neck community. A passionate VAM member, Brianna joined over 50 VAM programs and meetings throughout the Commonwealth and online during her thirteen-year tenure at the museum. Brianna's memory will live on at the Westmoreland County Museum, throughout the Northern Neck National Heritage Area, and with all of us in the VAM community.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Brianna's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. A memorial service for her museum community is being planned for later this spring and her family has requested donations in Brianna’s memory be made to the Westmoreland Museum.

In this time of sorrow, we remember the life that Brianna lived and commit to honor her memory, emulating her dedication to the community, museums, and education.
