It’s hard to believe it’s almost February! In the school world, it is always an interesting time as we are beginning to plan for the next school year. We are also dealing with some very unpredictable winter weather. Thanks to the entire community for their support when we have to make school adjustments!

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Columbia Addition Groundbreaking!

If you have driven by Columbia Intermediate recently, you have probably noticed a new sign, construction trailer, fence, and crews starting the work on the addition! We had a fun groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, January 17, 2025, to celebrate the beginning of construction of the new addition at CIS.

This addition is part of the facilities master plan and accounts for the growth we are seeing in the district. This addition will add classrooms, support rooms, extended learning areas, outdoor learning spaces, and a new playground. Once the new high school building is complete, CIS will accommodate our 4th and 5th-grade students. We expect the addition to be completed in the fall of 2025.

New Kings High School Update

The new Kings High School design has moved into the next phase of development. We are spending considerable time with staff and students focusing on the interior design of the building. The initial estimates we have received of the building are promising, enabling us to progress into a more detailed and comprehensive phase of planning.

We are on schedule for a groundbreaking ceremony on May 30, 2025, so stay tuned for more information on that!

POWER 5 FUTURE SKILLS

One of our main strategic initiatives is the implementation of the Kings Power 5 Future Skills. These skills are vital for our students to master throughout their school careers, enabling them to be highly competitive against their peers no matter the career path they choose. Each of our school buildings is being highlighted at our monthly board meetings and our teachers are sharing how they are implementing strategies to grow our students' ability to be Problem Solvers, Critical Thinkers, Communicators, Collaborators, and Career Ready

We are revolutionizing the educational experience in Kings to prepare students for life beyond the walls of our school district!

See the image below that highlights our Power 5 Skills.

MENTAL HEALTH UPDATE

In December, our Kings Junior High Sources of Strength Peer Leaders took the initiative to lead a heartfelt “Trusted Adults” campaign, fostering a sense of community and support among our students.

They presented to the over 700 KJH students in their homerooms, highlighting the vital role trusted adults play in providing encouragement and support during challenging and joyful moments. This was a great reminder for students to lean on these important figures in their lives whenever they face concerns, whether for themselves or others.

After the presentations, the Peer Leaders engaged the students in a creative snowflake activity, where each 7th and 8th grader wrote the name of their trusted adult on a snowflake. It was heartwarming to see students identifying not just parents and teachers, but also coaches and older siblings as their pillars of support. The snowflakes were proudly displayed on the school windows creating a snow blizzard of trust and connection.

This initiative exemplifies the spirit of the Kings Local School District, reminding us of the power of trusted relationships in nurturing our students' well-being and growth.
