A Note From Dean Jermyn
As we embrace the vibrant spirit of September, we're excited to highlight the remarkable achievements and impactful events within Rowan-Virtua SOM.
Notably, the RISN Center secured a significant five-year grant to empower medical students and residents in delivering primary care to individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, our SOM community joined forces during the recent White Coat Note campaign, surpassing all expectations and raising over $15,000 for the White Coat Scholarship. This collective generosity paves the way for a brighter future for our aspiring doctors, exemplifying the profound impact of unity.
I would also like to thank everyone who attended the Town Hall on September 19. Our accomplishments and acts of generosity emphasize our power to create meaningful change. I extend my gratitude for your steadfast commitment to our shared mission.
My best regards,
Richard T. Jermyn, D.O., FAAPMR
Dean

RISN Center Receives $2 Million Commitment |
On September 22, Health Resources and Services Administrator (HRSA) Carole Johnson and U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross attended a special roundtable discussion sponsored by Dr. Jennifer LeComte, Dr. Wendy Aita, and the staff of the Rowan-Virtua Regional Integrated Special Needs (RISN) Center. During the event, Johnson announced that the RISN Center had been awarded a five-year grant, totaling $2,004,520, to train medical students and residents in providing primary care for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
Congratulations to Dr. LeComte, Dr. Aita, and the dedicated RISN staff for their vital work in providing access to essential primary care and behavioral health services for our region's most vulnerable populations.
The HRSA grant to RISN joins four others previously awarded to SOM, the most awarded to any osteopathic medical school. Additionally, the Rowan-Virtua School of Nursing and Health Professions also is a HRSA grant recipient.

Joanna Petrides, MBS, Psy.D. from the Departments of Family Medicine and Psychology and chair of the Rowan-Virtua SOM Wellness Committee, shares this month’s tip for improving wellbeing.
As we settle back into our post-summer routines, we may be struggling to adjust to this change. Remember to be patient with yourself; nothing in nature blooms all year. Practice being flexible when your day doesn’t go as planned and schedule in time to catch up with yourself.
