This year's DC International film festival is a hybrid with screenings in movie theaters and streaming online. Filmfest DC aims to help revitalize Washington's cultural vitality by bringing the best in new world cinema to residents and visitors. Premieres, comedies, thrillers, dramas, social justice documentaries, and new films by Washington filmmakers will transport you.

Join the Logan Circle Community Association (LCCA) and the Shaw (Watha T. Daniel) Neighborhood Library for celebration of the Earth at Garrison's playground.

Children will learn ways to protect mother nature through an organized craft project and storytelling. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to peruse a selection of books from the library. Kids can be checked out the library books right at the event.

Profs and Pints

Profs and Pints DC presents: “Black Barber Shops—a Social History,” an exploration of the shifting and vital roles such institutions have played in American civil society, with Quincy T. Mills, associate professor of History at the University of Maryland and author of Cutting Along the Color Line: Black Barbers and Barber Shops in America.

Professor Mills will walk you through this hairy history with razor-sharp analysis. You may never look at a barber shop the same. (Advance tickets: $12. Doors: $15, or $13 with a student ID.
Walking Tour of Dupont Circle

Explore Dupont Circle’s rich history with the Woman's National Democratic Club and see how eight national women’s organizations established deep roots in buildings of timeless elegance. The Walking Tour proceeds along tree-lined avenues in a neighborhood filled with examples of historic architecture and points of interest.

Free docent-led tours begin at the Whittemore House at 11:00 am every Wednesday in May. Tours conclude around 12:30. Click here for information.

Last year DCCA put together a collection of Dupont Homes for you to tour online. The collection featured homes and stories of notable individuals with an emphasis on African Americans who have made Dupont home over the course of history. The Case for Statehood told by QUILT!
The Washingtonian featured a selection of quilts submitted after DC statehood advocates asked quilters around the country to represent the city’s aspirations in fabric. More than 50 answered the call, and now the quilts are being shown around Washington. We talked to Barbara Garlock, a retired nonprofit exec who helped organize the project with the League of Women Voters.
