Filing into the auditorium, the UCSF School of Medicine Class of 2027 marked the first steps of their medical journey with the annual tradition known as the White Coat Ceremony. | |
New Clinical Student Lounge Opens on Parnassus Heights Campus | |
A new clinical medical student lounge and study space on the ninth floor of the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) at the Parnassus Heights Campus is now open for UCSF medical students in the Foundations 2 and Career Launch phases of their curriculum.
Located in room S976, the new lounge is conveniently located near clinical rotations at our Moffitt-Long hospital and provides clinical students with a beautiful, large space for study, rest, and relaxation.

Lin Li, MD, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at UCSF Fresno was recently named Associate Director of the SJV PRIME Program in Fresno. Yolanda Tinajero, MD, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences was named the Director of the SJV PRIME Program in San Francisco.
Laalasa Varanasi, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine was appointed as the Director of Admissions for the BS/MD pathway San Joaquin Valley PRIME+ Program.

"Integrating Discussions on Racism and Health Equity into Clinical Reasoning Conference” published in Academic Pediatrics | |
Academic Pediatrics recently published an article titled, “Integrating Discussions on Racism and Health Equity into Clinical Reasoning Conference,” which was authored by a team of UCSF trainees, faculty educators, and staff.
In the article, the authors describe a model for incorporating discussions on racism and health equity into clinical reasoning conference in the UCSF pediatrics residency program. They discuss the unique experience of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and white residents who participated in the pilot.
They also share two tools for medical educators to apply an antiracist health equity lens into their teaching. One tool is specifically designed for clinical reasoning sessions. The other tool can be applied to any clinical teaching presentation.

Developed with input from students, faculty leaders, and staff seeks to build a culture of ongoing growth and improvement by identifying examples of effective anti-oppression education, recognizing and addressing events that fall short of our anti-oppressive goals, and informing faculty development. | |
Public Health Heroes: Invisible Corps Screening and Alumni Panel | |
On Tuesday, September 12, join UCSF alumni and friends at a special screening of Invisible Corps, a documentary about the Commissioned Corps of the US Public Health Service (USPHS) who are the unsung heroes at the front lines of public health. You’ll learn how the USPHS Commissioned Corps affects the lives of Americans in our most underserved communities, from ensuring safe drinking water to eradicating diseases, and participate in a discussion with distinguished UCSF alumni and the filmmaker.
