Note from School Leaders

Dear Rising Tide Students and Families,

We would like to address the terrible events that began over a week ago and continue in Israel and Gaza. We expect that members of our Rising Tide community have had a range of exposure to the violence, suffering, and loss of civilian lives. For those who would like more support in discussing the news at home, the American Psychological Association has shared an article with suggestions for talking about war. Many news outlets have also reported concerns about misinformation and about graphic images of violence being shared over social media, and we encourage students and families to be cautious with social media use. The Digital Wellness Lab with Boston Children's Hospital is a great resource for helping students and families navigate a range of topics related to the digital world and social media.

If your family has any direct ties to the region of the conflict and are in need of more support, please let us and our wellness team know. We want Rising Tide to continue to be a place where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported.

Sincerely,

Michael O'Keefe

Head of School

Interim Principal/Assistant Head of School

Meeting for Those Registered for Trip to Ireland

Hello Travelers! The first pre-departure meeting for the Ireland Trip will take place this Thursday, October 19 at 6:30 pm. This is a virtual meeting, which you can join here. This is a mandatory meeting for all who are registered and going on the trip. Please email trip leader, Ms. Martz, at hmartz@risingtide.org, if you have any questions.

Postural Screenings for Grades 5-9

Rising Tide's Health Office will be conducting annual postural screenings beginning the week of October 23 for grades 5-9. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health requires schools to screen students yearly in grades 5-9. The purpose is to find early signs of possible spinal problems.

This is not a diagnostic service but a program to identify young people who should have further medical evaluation. If your child has any unusual findings, you will be notified and asked to take your child to a physician as a precaution. The majority of students exhibit no findings. If nothing unusual is found, the nurse will not be contacting you again until the screening next year.

To facilitate the screening, any student who would feel more comfortable is asked to bring a two-piece swimsuit top or sports bra to school to have for the day of the screening. This type of clothing permits more accurate observation of the back. If you do not want your child screened, please send in a notice in writing to Lisa Hughes or send an email to LHughes@risingtide.org before October 23.

Register for AP Exams

Rising Tide students who are enrolled in advanced classes (offered primarily in 11th & 12th grade) are eligible to take AP Exams, as those courses align with the AP curriculum. AP Exams are offered through the College Board and students can potentially earn college credit or place out of certain college requirements. AP Exams take place each May, but registration is due on November 14th. Please reach out to Ms. Trauttmansdorff if you have any questions.

Registration is a two-step process. Please follow the instructions on this form. You must register BOTH on the College Board website and with Rising Tide.

Yearbook Information Packets for Seniors

Hello Seniors and Senior Families! The Yearbook Team is sending out the Senior Information Packet, which contains information about what materials families and students need to submit to help the Yearbook Club create Rising Tide’s 2023-2024 Yearbook. Please read through the packet and reach out to Holly Martz, Yearbook Advisor, at hmartz@risingtide.org with any questions. Students should be on the look out for an invite to the Yearbook Google Classroom where they can upload their senior/baby photos and their student bios.

Update from the Parent Group
