SAVE THE DATE: Public Meeting for
SEMAC's Biennial Plan
| |
Tuesday, March 18 | 6-8p
via Zoom
| |
Every other year, the Regional Arts Councils throughout the state are required by the Minnesota State Arts Board to submit a Biennial Plan that sets priorities for the two upcoming fiscal years. This spring plans are due for fiscal years 2026 and 2027!
Each regional arts council’s plan is based on input from the communities we serve. SEMAC’s plan was shaped by the results of the Needs Assessment Survey we conducted this fall to which more than 200 artists, arts professionals, arts supporters, and members of the general public responded. But, participation from the community in this planning process does not end there!
On Tuesday, March 18, we will hold a public meeting on Zoom to go through the key points and to hear your input. Register for this Zoom meeting at the link below.

SEMAC Successfully Completes Arts Economic Impact Study
Sherry Ladig won the AFTA survey drawing for two free tickets to any arts event in the SEMAC region. Sherry is a Twin Cities-based musician with roots in Lake City who performs in metro venues and on small-town stages across Minnesota and Wisconsin. She values both performing and supporting fellow musicians.
Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of our arts community, SEMAC exceeded our goal of 400 surveys for the Americans for the Arts economic impact study. These surveys, collected at various arts events throughout southeastern Minnesota, will contribute to a comprehensive state-wide report analyzing the economic significance of arts in Minnesota.
We're delighted to announce our survey participation drawing winner, Sherry Ladig, who has chosen two tickets to Thomasina Petrus - Legends of Jazz Valentine Show.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete a survey and support this important research initiative. Look for the findings of this study to be announced this spring.

The Ongoing Impacts of
SEMAC-Funded Projects
| |
We are catching up with previous grant recipients to learn about the lasting impacts of their funded projects. By reconnecting with the individuals and organizations, we aim to share how our grants have benefited artists and their communities. This month, we feature Rick Swanson's Photoessay: Anti-Intellectualism in Minnesota project.
Truth is a Lie by Rick Swanson
Through striking black and white photographs developed using coffee, Rochester photographer Rick Swanson's "Photoessay: Anti-Intellectualism in Minnesota" examines how we understand truth and knowledge in our increasingly divided society. What began as documentation of anti-science attitudes evolved into a deeper exploration of beliefs and perspectives, strengthened by partnerships with poet Joe Kidd and PossAbilities, a non-profit supporting adults with disabilities. The result is a thought-provoking look at how we form our beliefs and understand each other in challenging times. Read more about Rick's project in the link below.
SEMAC is committed to building bridges and nurturing meaningful relationships. We are seeking artists, arts professionals, and arts enthusiasts to join our Arts Advisory Panel and Board of Directors. The Panel is responsible for reviewing grant applications and making funding recommendations to the Board.
