CURRENT MISSION PROJECT

IT’S SOUPer BOWL TIME

(no, that’s not a mis-print).

Again this year, as a special mission project, HSCPC will be participating in the SOUPer Bowl of Caring, by collecting cans / packages of soups and cash donations for the House of Hope.

A simple prayer: "Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat" has inspired a youth-led movement to help hungry and hurting people around the world.

This prayer, delivered in 1990 by Brad Smith, then a seminary intern serving at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC, gave birth to an idea. Why not use Super Bowl weekend, a time when people come together for football and fun, to also unify the nation for a higher good: collecting dollars and canned food for the needy? Youth could collect donations at their schools and churches, and then send every soup can and dollar DIRECTLY to a local charity of their choice.

The SOUPer Bowl of Caring has become a powerful movement that is transforming the time around the Big Game into one of the nation’s largest celebrations of giving and serving. Young people have been leading the charge and inspiring others to collect dollars and food in the weeks leading up to the Big Game. These groups give 100% of donations to local charities, changing the nation's largest weekend of football into the largest weekend of caring.

Your soup or cash donations should be brought to church on or before Super Bowl Sunday, Feb 9. Soup donations can be left in the church office M thru Th, 9 til noon) if you want to drop them off during the week. Be sure to take advantage of the BOGO’s - (Buy One - Get One), and sales.

For cash donations, use the Mission Envelopes found in the pew boxes, marking them for “SouperBowl Mission donation”. Make checks payable to HSCPC

FOOD TRUCKS

The first and third Fridays of every month

5:00 to 8:00 PM

The food trucks that have previously gathered behind Zeus Park on the second Friday of each month needed a new home. Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian Church has offered them the use of its property adjacent to the dog park, and they will now gather there on the first and third Fridays of each month,

The venture is being run by Sophia’s Restaurant, and the only role of the church will be to serve as a parking space.

CHURCH THRIFT STORE

The church Thrift Store is open on Sunday mornings during Fellowship Hour after the Worship Service. It contains a large variety of items, both decorative and useful, that are just waiting to find their new homes.

Members and friends of the church are encouraged to pay the store a visit on Sunday mornings after Church. All proceeds from sales are donated to help meet the financial obligations of the Church.

Locally collected raw honey is also available for “purchase.” T J Gilson has made available jars of local raw honey collected by an apiary business in Palm City for which he works. The “sale price” is a voluntary donation which will be allocated for church structural and roof repairs.

HOBE SOUND COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

BUILDING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

BUILDING ON A STRONG FOUNDATION

On January 10, 1926, Hobe Sound Community Church was organized under the supervision of the Presbyterian Church, USA.

As we look toward our 100th birthday, we are making plans for the exciting centennial celebration to take place in the year 2026. These plans include an ambitious and much needed Building Improvement Plan extending through 2025, and beyond. All donations to this fund-raising campaign to help maintain and preserve our historical church facility will be warmly received and appreciated.

THE FIRST PHASE OF THE BUILDING IMPROVEMENT PLAN consisted of installation of new storm resistant windows in the Sanctuary and Manse, and accompanying needed repairs.

THE SECOND PHASE OF THE PLAN consisted of renovations in the kitchen and fellowship hall.

THE THIRD PHASE OF THE PLAN consisted of repair and painting of the church steeple.

THE FOURTH (AND FINAL) PHASE will be replacement of the church roof and attached structures. Fund raising projects are continuously underway to make this major and expensive project possible, hopefully before the beginning of the Centennial Celebration next January

SPECIAL RECOGNITION is due to Elder Raelyn Holmes, the chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. She has taken charge of all the detailed work involved in getting bids, selecting vendors, keeping track of work schedules, checking on work-site progress and being available to the work crew for questions. Thank you, Raelyn, for all the time and effort you have put into this and the many previous building improvement projects.
