The epilogue and appendix of this book describe the celebration of the Dalai Lama's birthday and offer some practical ways which might produce joy for living. What has been learned from the conversations with Bishop Tutu and the Dalai Lama? Have their thoughts and spiritual practices made a difference for us? These will be the topics for discussion for the last session about this book. Class begins Sunday at 9:15 AM in Room 31 of the Education Building or by Zoom.

Montclair Elementary Mentors

Over the past several years, Christ Church has built a strong relationship with the students and staff at Montclair Elementary. Of course, that has looked very different over the past two years and we have greatly missed our in-person interactions with the students. Fortunately, we are thrilled that we will be able to return to in-person mentoring this school year! If you are interested in serving as a mentor – someone who can commit to regularly listening, supporting, and encouraging a student for one hour each week or every other week during the school year – please email Honey Harris. We will also have occasional opportunities for volunteers to assist with class parties, science labs, etc. Mentor and volunteer training will take place at Montclair on Tuesday, August 9.

Montclair School Supply Drive

As part of our partnership with Montclair Elementary, we are hoping to bless the teachers and students with needed supplies for the school year. If you are interested in helping a teacher, please email Honey Harris for individual teacher wish list links. If you would like to purchase supplies for students, any of the school supplies listed here would be helpful and can be dropped off at the church.

Bridging the Gap

Our neighbors without homes are in great need of new or used clothes (especially men’s), socks, washcloths, and toiletries – including bars of soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, hand sanitizer, and hand cream. Donations can be left in the boxes labeled 'Bridging the Gap' in the back hallway of the church offices. Please click here for more information on how to help.

CHRIST CHURCH CHORISTER PROGRAM

TO BEGIN IN FALL

Christ Church Parish is starting an exciting new music program: Christ Church Choristers is a youth chorister program based on the curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music. The program is open to all students of reading ability, generally, 3rd grade through high school. The Choristers rehearse Wednesday afternoons throughout the academic year and join the Parish Choir to sing the 10:30 AM Eucharist on the first and third Sundays of the month. Christ Church Choristers is open to all youth, both within the parish and the larger community outside Christ Church Parish. The Parish provides all music, supplies, and vestments, so there is no cost to families to participate in Christ Church Choristers. If you have a student who might be interested in singing or know of families who may be looking for such a program for their aspiring singers, please keep Christ Church Choristers in mind. Registration will open in early August, with rehearsals beginning on August 24, 2022.

STAY CONNECTED WITH

CHILDREN & FAMILY MINISTRY!

Children and Family Ministry (CFM) has two ways to keep our families connected with Christ Church during the week. CFM is on Instagram, @cckidspensacola, and shares what is happening on Sunday mornings & ideas for how to keep faithful conversations happening during the week. CFM also has a bite-sized weekly email with the "5 Things" our families need to know for the week – Sunday reminders, save the dates, and more. Would you like to be added? Email Victoria to be added to the list!

UKRAINE

As we continue to witness the devastation and havoc in Ukraine, we are mindful of Christ’s continual call to extend God’s unconditional love – including in areas far from Pensacola. One way is that we uphold all those who are suffering in prayer. We pray for God to watch over the people of Ukraine and those directly ministering to them in this time. We also pray for peace, for leaders of all nations, and for people in Russia and surrounding countries. Included below is the Prayer for Peace we have been praying to help guide you in prayer; and then two Diocesan recommended ways to reach out our hands in love to those in need.

Prayer for Peace in Ukraine and All Places

Lord God Almighty – Prince of Peace – in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: hear our prayer for our brothers and sisters who are suffering in conflicts around the world, but especially this day for those in Ukraine. Bring quickly an end to the current warfare and help those who are able find a way to peace in that land. And we pray for those who have died, and those who love them – and for those who have suffered injury and loss – and those who will care for them. And finally, gracious God – we pray for ourselves: that we may find compassion in our hearts and generosity in our spirits to aid those who are suffering in Ukraine and in every country where conflict and deprivation offend the human dignity we hold so dear in our own baptism. All this we ask in the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen.

Ways to Help:

  1. The Diocese has recommended partnering with Episcopal Relief and Development, which is actively engaged in providing crisis relief of supplies and humanitarian assistance to the hurting people of Ukraine. Christ Church supports Episcopal Relief and Development broadly through our March Madness outreach. To support the Ukraine Crisis Response directly, you can write a check made payable to Christ Church with ERD – Ukraine Crisis written in the memo line.
  2. The Diocesan Commission on World Mission Engagement has partnered with Blessings International to provide medical supplies for those in need with war-inflicted injuries in Ukraine. Checks may be made out to Blessings International with Ukraine Medications in the memo line and sent to The Rev. Clelia Pinza-Garrity, St. Simon’s Church, 28 Miracle Strip Pkwy SW, Ft. Walton Beach, 32548.
EPISCOPAL YOUTH COMMUNITY NEWS

EYC BOWLING SOCIAL ~ Saturday, July 30 ~ 5-7 PM

All youth, ages 6th-12th grade are invited to come to Cordova Lanes on Saturday, July 30 from 5-7 PM. Food will be provided and the cost is $3.50 per person per game with free shoe rentals. We will need 3 adult volunteers to help chaperone. Please RSVP to Tess by Wednesday, July 27.

ALTAR FLOWER DEDICATIONS
Each week our worship service is enhanced with beautiful fresh flowers. After the Sunday services, the altar flower arrangements are reworked into smaller arrangements. These arrangements are delivered to members of our parish family that are unable to attend a Sunday service. The altar flowers are a memorial, a thanksgiving for an anniversary, a birthday, a new birth, or a thanksgiving for God's blessings. The donation is listed in the weekly bulletin. Forms to participate in this ministry are available here and on the information table in the Parish Office.

CARE IN COMMUNITY

Christ Church is here for you. There are many ministries to love and support the people who are the church. If you are interested in assisting with staying connected to our church family, please email Rev. Katie or call her at the Parish Office, 850-432-5115. It is easy to feel alone or disconnected, so reach out to one of the priests or someone at the church to say hello. Contact Rev. Katie if you or anyone you know has any needs. If you have a pastoral emergency, please call our pastoral care emergency line to speak directly with one of the priests: (850) 462-5137.

BIRTHDAYS & WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES
