Business Tax Certificate Renewal Deadline This Friday



The deadline for renewing Business Tax Certificates (commonly referred to as business licenses) without late fees is Friday, January 31, 2025. Business Tax Certificates expired on December 31, 2024, and will incur late fees if paid on or after February 1, 2025. For fastest processing, business tax certificate renewals and payments should be made online. For the convenience of taxpayers wanting to file and pay online, there is a computer station in the City Hall lobby available for use to renew and pay business tax online.

Ordinance Committee January 28: Vending from Vehicles


The Ordinance Committee will meet on Tuesday, January 28, at noon in the Council Chambers to discuss proposed restrictions for mobile vending vehicles on city streets. Public participation is encouraged in person, via Zoom, phone, or written comments submitted online. Spanish translation and interpretation services will be available, and the meeting will be broadcast live on Channel 18 and YouTube.

 MarBorg Gray Trash Carts Lined Up.

Public Workshop: Upcoming Changes for Santa Barbara MarBorg Customers


The Clean Community Division and MarBorg Industries will host a public workshop on Wednesday, January 29, at the Sustainability & Resilience Office to discuss upcoming changes to trash and recycling services. In February, brown trash carts will be replaced with gray ones. By spring 2025, non-wheeled cans will be replaced with wheeled carts for all waste streams. Starting July 1, customers will be required to bring their carts to the curb for collection.

Let the Rain Do the Work, Give Your Watering System a Break: Thanks to recent rain, you can turn your sprinkler/drip system off to save water and money on your bill. A good rule of thumb is that if you get 1/4" or more of rainfall you can turn your watering system off for 7-10 days for your thirstiest plants. Use your "digital technology," i.e. your finger digit, to check the soil dryness before turning irrigation back on.
