Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaii

The Shinnyo-en Lantern Festival was brought to Hawaii in 1999. Typically, thousands of people of gather at Ala Moana Beach Park on Oahu for a remembrance ceremony. Prayers are said and locals and visitors of all denominations choose lanterns on which they write messages for their loved ones that have passed away. Then they release the lit lanterns into the ocean. One of the intentions of this festival is to connect humanity through shared experiences. Due to Covid, the experience is offered digitally. You can view the ceremony live from 6:30-7pm HST via several sources or click here if you would like to send a virtual lantern.
