Hello First Branch,

Happy Sunday. This communication is late because it was a busy week in First Branch.

Here is the scoop for the week ahead!

We are entering the forth week of school and there is so much to celebrate! Please keep your ears open to how this occurs throughout your student(s) day.

First Branch Reminders:

All snacks coming from home should be items that will set students up for success. We ask no gum, candy, or other high-sugar items come in (food or drink). The school offers a fresh fruit or vegetable daily. We understand growing kids need different things. We are looking to empower our students through healthy choices. If your family needs support for snack options, please reach out to our school nurses. There are local programs ( Family Food Backpack) that can support families quietly. Items not setting students up for success will be asked to be returned to backpacks. If there is a struggle or constant concern, the item will be collected and a parent/guardian can pick it up at the end of the day. Please remember breakfast and lunch are free this year, and there are items included in these meals that can support snacks throughout the day for students in need of more fuel.

Dismissal Info: If your student has a change in dismissal we need to know by 1pm daily. We cannot honor last minute requests. All changes are noted for the bus company and for teachers.

Birthdays, Holidays and Respect for All

Our universal social and emotional teams are looking at ways to honor our students. We would like to celebrate birthdays and we know not everyone does. If your student currently is uncomfortable participating in a birthday celebration (i.e receiving a card or a shout out at lunch.) please let us know. We also respect families with religious affiliation that may have different ways of noting birthdays and holidays. In such cases we want to work in partnership with you to support you student and ensure we are being respectful. Please reach out to Noelle Higginson directly, our student support coordinator to share more about your family. ([email protected]).

Oct 2023: Clubs for CPS

We are excited to announce a few after school activities for CPS for students 5th-8th grade. We have a Charcoal Drawing class in the works and a World Language class (Mandarin). (*The Mandarin class is as a result of Mrs. Cash winning a free class package at the Vermont Principal Association Conference.)

We are looking for community members to join in and support this work with compensation. Do you have a skill or hobby you can share? We would love to learn it with you. Contact Janet Cash, [email protected]. This is made possible by the Community + Schools Grant!
