Dear Parents and Caregivers,

October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month! This month, we bring awareness to students impacted by learning differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and executive function difficulties.

Coming this week:

  • October 10: Brain Trauma, Concussion, and CTE: What Should Families Know?, Samantha Bureau, PhD, neuroscientist, Concussion Legacy Foundation
  • October 12: Work, Parent, Thrive: Rethinking Rest, Yael Schonbrun, PhD, author, Work, Parent, Thrive, and Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, PhD, author, Rest
  • October 13: Parent Forum #26 (English) - Strengthening Trust and Goodwill with Your Child/Teen, Eran Magen, PhD

Join us for two special events focused on student mental health and well-being:

1) How can we teach our kids to strive towards excellence without crushing them? In her new book, Never Enough, NY Times bestselling author Jennifer Breheny Wallace investigates the deep roots of toxic achievement culture (October 18).

2) Too many youth are struggling with mental health. Child psychiatrists Dr. Steve Adelsheim and Dr. Shashank Joshi, Stanford Medicine Children's Health, present Youth Mental Health: Prevention Strategies, Resources, and Support (October 19).

NEW! How can we increase learning and joy while offering kids much-needed support? In Whole Child, Whole Life: 10 Ways to Help Kids Live, Learn & Thrive, Stephanie Malia Krauss offers a guidebook for parents everywhere (October 25).

NEW! In a three-part series, MY BODY TO LOVE, Emmy award-winning filmmaker Preeti Mankar Deb presents short films (6 min) that profile youth coming into their sexuality. Join us for Arjun's Story (Film + Discussion) on October 26.

We are proud to welcome two new members to The Parent Venture community! Say hello to Mercer Island Parent Edge, WA, and Orinda Union School District, CA.
