Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the formation of a blue-ribbon task force to examine the future of police training in Ohio.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the filing of a lawsuit against five large oil and gas companies.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that "groups that help crime victims across South Carolina will soon be getting more than $31 million in federal and state grants."
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell announced her office "has indicted an individual for impersonating physicians to illegally obtain prescription drugs and then selling those drugs for profit as part of an elaborate drug diversion scheme."
New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a court ruled against three merchant cash advance companies and their principals "for harming small businesses through high-interest loans and undisclosed fees."
Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry announced a settlement with a State College landlord, Legacy Realty & Property Management, LLC, which charged student tenants allegedly unlawful administrative fees attached to security deposits.
West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said his office has reached a settlement agreement with ResCare Inc. for $576,111.43 following an investigation initiated by the Attorney General’s Office’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin announced the sentencing of a Camden County, New Jersey, resident for his role in laundering money for a transnational fraud scheme that used multiple scams to defraud victims of nearly $1.5 million.
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month, encouraged officers struggling with mental health challenges to seek help.
CYBERSECURITY
Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced the Investor Protection Unit of the Delaware Department of Justice has issued a Summary Order to Cease and Desist against respondents linked to a cryptocurrency scam known as the “pig butchering scam.”
GAMING
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin announced the August 2023 total gaming revenue results for the state.
ORGANIZED RETAIL CRIME
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced an individual was arraigned before a judge "on five counts of Organized Retail Fraud for his role in an alleged theft and resale ring targeting Sam’s Club stores across mid- and southeast-Michigan."
Illinois Attorney General Raoul charged four individuals in connection to the alleged theft of tools, electronics and equipment in the estimated amount of $24,000. The charges are the result of a multi-jurisdictional investigation facilitated by Raoul’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force.
COMBATING HUMAN TRAFFICKING
AND CHILD EXPLOITATION
Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced that starting September 18, 2023, "applications for funding from the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund are available through the Office of the Attorney General and service providers are welcome to begin the application process."
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced that "a Providence man has been found guilty in Kent County Superior Court of sexually assaulting a female victim under the age of 14 between 2018 and 2020."
Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes announced his office charged an individual with 34 felonies related to fraudulent activity at a "Utah non-profit, anti-human trafficking corporation." The individual was arrested "for engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity, including communications fraud, theft by deception, theft of services, identity fraud, forgery, and unlawful conduct."
OPIOIDS AND ILLICIT DRUGS
Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced "the release of $8 million to the frontlines of the opioid epidemic. For the first time, real dollars from Kentucky’s opioid settlements are flowing to 24 organizations in every corner of the Commonwealth."
California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the arrest of a drug trafficker and the seizure of nearly 135 pounds of illegal narcotics in Santa Ana.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares filed an amicus brief, joined by 17 other state attorneys general, in TIKTok v. Knudsen.
HEALTH CARE
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of 24 attorneys general in an amicus brief filed in United States of America v. Idaho.
AGO HIGHLIGHTS
US Virgin Islands Attorney General Ariel Smith announced the First Parenting Graduation Certificate Ceremony for the Hispanic Community in the St. Thomas/St. John District on September 22, 2023, and on Saturday, September 23, 2023, where 105 graduates will receive certificates in the St. Croix District. “The parents attended six weeks 2-hour intensive parenting sessions to help create parental relationships to improve their children's safety and well-being by teaching effective ways to co-parent and increase dads' involvement in raising their children.”
