This is the first of my District 36 newsletters, where I will discuss District 36 issues, legislation, road plans, and political topics. Please forward to your neighbors who might have interest, you can subscribe or unsubscribe at any time.
Retiring Rep Jerry Miller has been generous with his time getting me spooled up before the official January 3 "swearing in" date. I have met with citizen groups, the KY Highway department, and legislative committees in Frankfort as a part of my education - there is a lot to learn! I would appreciate hearing from you in this process also.
Liberty is a team sport!
District 36 Road & Traffic Plans
I met with the KY Chief Highway Engineer for our area to get updated on plans and projects. The State Legislature controls the budget for State highways, and Louisville Metro controls the budget for local roads. The the jurisdictions overlap on most projects, making the process cumbersome! It can take 5-10 years for a project to go from conception to funding to completion, which is too long!
Critical projects in work or planning:
  • Gene Snyder widening to I71 - construction progressing well
  • Old Henry new turn lanes - planning
  • US 60 intersections (2) with Eastwood Cut-Off for safety issues - planning
  • Taylorsville at Pope Lick bridge and road widening - planning
  • As status progresses on these projects, I will provide more detailed updates.
  • Please advise me on the most critical un-addressed road issues in your area. There are numerous issues regarding Johnson Road. The Legislature has a role in prioritizing road projects based on critical needs, safety and congestion.
Constitutional Minute
Where do our rights come from?
Our founding documents state that our rights come from God, not the government. This is the fundamental concept that has made America the beacon of freedom to the world:
· US Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (1776)
· KY Constitution Preamble: “We, the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, grateful to Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberties we enjoy, and invoking the continuance of these blessings, do ordain and establish this Constitution.” (1891)
Legislative Update
The “Yes for Life” Amendment
A KY Constitutional Amendment was approved by the 2022 Legislature to put on the KY ballot in November for public vote, amending the KY Constitution to add:

Section 26A. To protect human life, nothing in this Constitution shall be construed to secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding of abortion”

Political Happenings in Dist 36
Metro Mayor Race
My friend Bill Dieruf, the very successful Mayor of Jeffersontown for the last 12 years, is running for Metro Louisville Mayor. District 36 is frequently overlooked by the Metro government that focuses on residents inside the Watterson Expressway for metro services. It would be a big benefit to have someone from our area leading city government. Please check him out!
