Dear Friends-

This week I was flipping through C.S. Lewis’ celebrated ‘Mere Christianity’. I came across a passage that I underlined (I don’t have any recollection of when) that speaks of what it means to have Faith in Christ.  

“To have Faith in Christ means, of course, trying to do all that He says. There would be no sense in saying you trusted a person if you would not take his advice. Thus if you have really handed yourself over to Him, it must follow that you are trying to obey Him. But trying in a new way, a less worried way. Not doing these things in order to be saved, but because He has begun to save you already. Not hoping to get to Heaven as a reward for your actions, but inevitably wanting to act in a certain way because a first faint gleam of Heaven is already inside you.”

B-SAFE Save-the-Date and Donate

Thanks to those who have already signed up to contribute to our B-Safe week. The field trip to Ashland State Park will be on Friday, July 14th.  We can still use more food donations and volunteers for BBQ'ing and clean up, so please consider signing up HERE! If you would like to contribute to the costs of buses, etc, you can do so HERE. 

For those who have volunteered to contribute food, if you are not coming to the field trip, please leave your contributions in the Kitchen/Fridge at St. Peter's no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023. If you will be at the field trip and are contributing food, please plan to be there no later than 10:00 a.m. (the BBQ gets started early!). Thank you!!

Afghan Ministry Update

Camp Brookside Returns!

With school out we held our last Brookside Tuesday last week. We’re taking a few weeks break and Camp Brookside will start on July 11th. This week IINE hosted a World Refugee Day celebration at Brookside with delicious food, lawn games for the kids, English certificates which two of our Mom’s received and various speakers whose stories were both inspirational and heart breaking. Some of the African refugees had spent up to nine years in camps before coming to the United States. Eid-Al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice will be celebrated Thursday, June 29th. It is a very important Muslim holiday and time of celebration. New clothes, haircuts for the kids, visiting one another, group prayer and delicious food and treats. Charity is also a major component of Eid and we are very thankful to our Muslim neighbors at the Islamic Center in Wayland for a gift drive resulting in each family receiving Target gift cards giving them the funds to celebrate as they would have back home. If you’d like to help with Camp Brookside this summer, let me know. Always looking for some company on my Tuesday trips north. Happy summer to all.

George’s Vacation

Later this month my family and I will head to Martha’s Vineyard where I take a Summer Chapel called Trinity, Oak Bluffs for two weeks. You’ll be in great hands. 

The first week including Sunday, July 23 our Sunday service will be covered by The Rev. Martha Hubbard. Martha, as you may remember, is our Regional Canon and handles (among many other things) congregations in transition. In addition to preaching and celebrating, Martha will be available following the service to talk about our search for a Priest-in-Charge here at St. Peter’s. 

The week of Sunday, July 30 will be covered by the Rev. Skip Windsor. Skip and Kathy are on a marvelous trip to the Arctic Circle this month, so be sure to ask them about it! 

I’m grateful for the time away with my family and look forward to being back with you in August!

Though many of St. Peter's parishioners have returned to worshiping and receiving Holy Communion in person inside our church building, we know it is not yet safe for all of us to do so. We will continue to live-stream our services so that we may include as many as possible in our offerings of praise and thanksgiving to God.

If it is not yet safe for you to worship with us in person, and you would like to receive Holy Communion and/or a share a time of prayer at your home, please contact the Parish Office.

If you would like to schedule a time during the week for private prayer in the church, please contact the church office.

St. Peter's is committed to continuing to make our worship space safe and welcoming to all. We hope to have you back with us in person as soon as doing so is the right choice for you.
