Saranna Fanning is an Assistant Professor in Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. She received her undergraduate BSc and PhD degrees in Microbiology from the National University of Ireland, Cork (UCC), performing her doctoral research on bifidobacteria and Candida albicans at UCC, Columbia University, NY, and Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. Dr. Fanning performed her postdoctoral training in the lab of Dr. Susan Lindquist at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, MIT, MA and joined the Selkoe Lab at the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases at Brigham & Women’s hospital in 2017. Her lab will focus on understanding the role of lipids, fatty acids and the metabolome in neurologic diseases. Her group currently concentrates on identifying therapeutic targets for Parkinson’s disease, one of which is currently in clinical trials.
