Informed Parents Make Great Partners

New Year, New Adventures!

We're less than a month into the school year, and our Owls are already well into their routines, with an ideal mix of learning, connecting, and growing happening in and out of the classrooms. From kindergarten boot camp and our first Girls' Volleyball game of the season, to friendly competition on the Gaga Ball court and Popsicles with the Principals for our hard-working Owls, there's been a whole lot to cheer about here at Aspen Ridge. Our fifth grade students started the year with an amazing overnight adventure at Cal-Wood Environmental Education Center, where they hiked in the rain, connected with nature, bunked with their buddies, and made memories that will stay with them long beyond these tween years. It's one of our favorite Aspen Ridge traditions. We can't wait to see what other adventures lie ahead for our Owls this school year!

We have lots to share in this September update. Thank you for taking the time to read through and stay up to date on all that's happening at ARPS!

Sending Your Child to Owls' Nest?

Please sign your child up for Owls' Nest through SignUp Genius every time you plan to use our afterschool childcare service. This ensures that we don't go over our daily attendance limit, and it also helps to improve accuracy on the billing side.

You'll find the SignUp Genius links on the Owls' Nest page of the school website. As a reminder, all billing will take place through brightwheel, so don't forget to add your payment information to your account. Thank you!

Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness!

On 9/29, ARPS will GO GOLD to raise awareness for Childhood Cancer. This cause is near and dear to our hearts, as some of our own ARPS Owls are strong and brave childhood cancer survivors.

How can you show your support for these small but mighty warriors?

  • Wear GOLD (or yellow) to school on September 29th!
  • Consider bringing in a donation for the Children's Cancer Therapy Development Institute.
  • ARPS adults, please sign up for our Children's Hospital Blood Drive, which will be held right here at ARPS on Friday, September 29th! This is the BEST way to have a direct impact on children who are sick or injured and in need of life-saving transfusions. Please sign up today!

Thank you for joining us in GOING GOLD and supporting this very worthy cause!

Attention, ARPS Middle Schoolers!

DC Deadline Extended & Photo Scavenger Hunt

Sign up by 9/30 if you'd like your 7th or 8th grader to make memories with their classmates in our nation's capital! Next year we'll be taking an international trip, so if you'd like your Owl to visit Washington D.C., this is the year to do it!

All middle schoolers are welcome to join in the fun on Friday, 9/15, starting in the gym! Parents, if you'd like to help us make this scavenger hunt happen by donating snacks, drinks, or your time to supervise the hunt, please sign up here!

Calling all Parent Volunteers!

One way to feel connected and involved at Aspen Ridge is to volunteer! Here are two upcoming opportunities to get involved at ARPS:

  • Spring Gala Planning Meeting | 9/11, 8:30am: Join us for our first planning meeting for the 2024 Spring Gala. Help us plan the school's biggest fundraiser - and party - of the year! All are welcome - and we'd love to hear your ideas for this year's theme! If you'd like to be involved but can't attend this meeting, please email [email protected].

  • Fall Fest Planning Meeting | 9/12, 8:30am: It's time to start planning Fall Fest! This event is fun for the whole family, with carnival-style games, tasty treats, face painting, a costume parade, and more. Help us plan this fun fall ARPS tradition. All are welcome! Questions? If you'd like to be involved but can't attend this meeting, please email [email protected].

Caring Counselors at ARPS

Have you had a chance to meet our School Counselor, Rebecca Mayo-Cody? She's a beloved member of our ARPS staff and is here to support our students' social, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing. Check out her Counseling Website for links to helpful resources and services, and feel free to contact her at [email protected].

If you see this friendly face in the halls of Aspen Ridge, say hello to our new Counseling Intern, Amber Cowley! Ms. Cowley is currently pursuing her Masters degree as she studies to become a school counselor. Her specialty at ARPS will be helping with the transition from 8th grade to high school. Welcome, Ms. Cowley! We're so glad to have you here!

This Month in Photos: Owls in Action

These awesome Owls earned the chance to have Popsicles with the Principals by completing their Summer Bridge Books! Way to keep learning and growing all summer long, Owls!

Our Kindergarten Cadets reported for duty at Kindergarten Boot Camp this month, with Mr. Zuppas and our middle school helpers leading the way!

They had a blast running, jumping, climbing, and maneuvering around obstacles to show that they're in great shape for this kindergarten year!

Our Girls' Volleyball season has just begun, and our Owls are looking sharp in their new uniforms! These were purchased with funds raised by our National Junior Honor Society students last year. Thanks, NJHS - and Go, Owls!

NJHS funds also helped us purchase our new mascot, Thunder, who was excited to welcome our Owls to their first day of school! Watch for Thunder to make an appearance at the Girls' Volleyball home game this Wednesday, 9/6, at 3:30pm!

After a summer of construction, our Owls were beyond excited to see their brand new playground! This colorful play structure has new places to climb, explore, hang, slide, and find shade on these hot and sunny school days.

One of the most popular playground additions is our new Gaga Ball Pit! At each recess it's full of boys and girls of all ages competing to be the last Owl standing. It's easy to learn, fun to play, and a great way to get our kiddos moving!

Our Owls don't ride a bus to school, so when a bus shows up on campus, you know it's for something exciting! Our 5th graders were all smiles as they boarded the bus for their Cal-Wood adventure!

Let's taco 'bout how awesome our lunchroom crew is! We're grateful that Mr. Wolly, Ms. Shannon, and Ms. Shelley are here each day to make sure that our Owls SOAR in the lunchroom!

FYI: Absences at ARPS
