The Growth of the Clarksville Food Pantry Continues to be

OFF the Charts!! AND You Make it Happen!

So let's talk about produce...WOW!!

In 2023, our Community Garden had a dynamite year! Between the garden, community donations and the Toone's boxes (the Toones are a local family that donates 10 boxes of fresh seasonal produce on a recurring basis each month), we had 7048 pounds of produce donated in 2023. We were also able to purchase 14,352 pounds of fresh produce through FeedMore and Clarksville Moore's Produce for a total of 21,390 pounds of fresh produce distributed in 2023. In 2022 we distributed 15,016 pounds.

That's a 42.5% increase in fresh produce distributed in 2023 to our neighbors in need.

Myth or Fact

AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY:MYTH! This one received a 50/50 myth/fact response!

We hate to be the proverbial worm in your apple but here’s the “in-cider” scoop: A report published in JAMA in 2015 based on national nutrition data collected from nearly 8,400 men and women (753 of whom ate an apple a day) concluded that eating an apple a day did not decrease the number of Doctor’s visits.

However, there is some sweet news, those who did eat an apple a day appear to take fewer prescription medications.

Enjoy apples for their satisfying taste and superb nutrient content! We always recommend fresh whole fruits over juices and processed fruit products.

Great Roasted Carrots

The best way to make roasted carrots is in a very hot oven so they brown beautifully in the same time it cooks for the inside to become sweet and tender. Because nobody wants bland, colorless baked carrots that look like they’ve been boiled!

The simplest way to add instant flavour to any vegetable is to roast it. The oven completely transforms bland vegetables, intensifying the natural flavour, caramelizing sugar you didn’t even know was in it, and giving it colour by browning the outsides. And we all know color = flavor!

And carrots are a wonderful example of roasting magic in action. Raw carrots – while crisp and fresh and has its place in this world – is simply no comparison to a pile of hot roasted carrots, sweet and tender on the inside, with caramelized edges!
