Compassion Camp Thanks

How blessed we are at St. Gregory the Great to have a committed group of volunteers who love children; families who value the unique role the church plays in the formation of our children; and adults who realize the faith journey is lifelong. All of these characteristics were on display at Compassion Camp this past week. Our children learned about:
  • a girl named Miriam, who showed that compassion is all around us, even in the most unlikely of places, as her baby brother Moses was cared for in unexpected ways;

  • a man named Elijah, whom God provided for in the wilderness, reminding us to have compassion for ourselves;

  • Jesus’ story about the Good Samaritan, and our calling to have compassion for people we do not know personally;

  • the story of Pentecost, and how the Holy Spirit breaks down barriers of language and culture, allowing compassion to be communicated and shared with all people.

  • We learned the Compassion Chant:  “I see your hurt; I feel your hurt; I help ease your hurt.”

Thank you to all who made Compassion Camp possible - from leading a rotation to playing music to preparing our meals. It is my prayer that the conversations, experiences, insights, and friendships shared at Compassion Camp will be the foundation for further growth and transformation - for our children and adults - so that we are vessels being used to make our world a more compassionate place, answering the prayer Jesus taught us as we make life “on earth as it is in heaven.”

ACOLYTES NEEDED

We are in need of a few more acolytes to give a bit of relief to those in our current rotation. Never served before? That's fine- we will teach you! Acolyting is a great, low commitment, way to get involved in the life of the parish! Reach out to Wade McGlamery, 770-624-4837, if you would like to volunteer.

We need 8 more! If you would like to volunteer, and/or coordinate, please contact Anna Hiers, vestry liaison to the Worship Committee, via email or @ 706-340-9799. Training will be provided.
Adult Spiritual Formation
Adult Spiritual Formation meets this Sunday to continue our exploration of the Gospel of Luke. All are welcome in the Parish Hall from 9:15 to 10:15 with no need to have attended earlier sessions. Bibles will be available but feel free to bring your own favorite.
