Avodah 2022: Supporting Abortion Access for all |
Every summer, the Avodah program at URJ Camp Newman dedicates a portion of our summer to raising money and advocating for a specific cause. After hours of research and discussion, we have decided to dedicate our efforts to abortion access for those who have been affected by the overturning of Roe V. Wade last month.
Abortion funds are a way to mitigate the cost of traveling for an abortion. In allocating money not just for an abortion, but the costs of meals, housing, and travel to a clinic, they help release pregnant people from the financial burden of accessing an abortion in a state that is not their own.

Tikkun Olam - URJ Postcard Kit & Postcarding Party |
Wednesday, August 24th // 7:00pm // In Person
The upcoming elections are crucial to social justice work. Our next step as a congregation is to work on getting out the vote. The Religious Action Center of the U.R.J. is part of the Every Voice, Every Vote campaign to strategically send out postcards to states where voter turnout is low. Our congregation sent out hundreds of postcards in 2020, and the midterms are just as important. You can order your postcards here and please check the box for Temple Emanu-El San Jose:
Request Your Postcard Kit Here
We will be holding a hybrid postcarding party so that we can fill them out together on Aug. 24 from 7-8:30. You can either join us in person in the BFR at Temple, or on zoom(or do them independently).

Exciting Announcement from the Chai House Board |
Chai House was founded in the 1970’s with the purpose of providing a safe, active and meaningful senior living facility in the South Bay for Jewish seniors. By 2019, less than 10% of the resident population identified as Jewish and the need for a new direction
was obvious. The Chai House Board voted to put the property on the market, and it was sold to Housing Preservation Inc (HPI), which is focused on the long-term preservation of affordable housing communities.
