Dear Sato Supporter,

Wow. Our team has received an outpouring of love since sharing the announcement of our new property. All of your messages and comments have meant the world to us. Our achievement of 'Sanctuary by The Sato Project' truly would not have been possible without people like you cheering us on and supporting us for the past 11 years. Thank you for being on this journey with us and making this new chapter of our rescue efforts possible.

In addition to opening 'Sanctuary by The Sato Project' this month, our team has also been flying satos to their new lives every week on commercial flights. Keep reading to meet some of these lucky travelers and check out our limited-edition merchandise that is only available to order through next week.

As always, thank you for being in our sato corner and helping us save lives every day.

In gratitude,

-- Chrissy Beckles, President & Founder

Support 'Sanctuary by The Sato Project'
Did you catch our big announcement earlier this month? In case you missed it: The Sato Project officially has a new home in Puerto Rico! For the first time ever in our 11 year history, we now have a property of our own where our dogs can live peacefully while they complete their vetting and rehabilitation. Click here to learn more about 'Sanctuary by The Sato Project'.

Since the announcement, our team has received an abundance of kind messages of support and congratulations. Thank you! Many of them included questions about how to support our new space. In addition to making a donation online at any time, we are happy to share two additional ways to support our new home: limited-edition merchandise and an ongoing Amazon Sanctuary Wishlist of needed supplies.
Merchandise in support of our new property is now available for a limited time!
For a very limited time, we are excited to offer 'Sanctuary by The Sato Project' gear! Through July 27th only, you can order T-shirts, tank tops, a water bottle, baseball cap and more, all emblazoned with our 'Sanctuary' logo. Many of the items also feature our favorite quotation from Muhammad Ali: "Impossible is nothing." This statement helps keep us inspired to never give up our fight for the dogs of Puerto Rico.

We use Custom Ink’s fundraisers as a means to make our t-shirts and other merchandise available without requiring our small staff to directly handle inventory or fulfillment. Custom Ink covers their own wholesale cost, and then all net proceeds are donated directly to The Sato Project.

That means every purchase will help us rescue more dogs from the streets of Puerto Rico and support the operations of our new property. See all limited-edition items that are currently available. And don't wait! All of these items are only available to order through WednesdayThank you for helping us save lives and for representing our satos with pride.
You can now send our satos in Puerto Rico toys and treats directly through our Amazon Sanctuary Wishlist.
'Sanctuary by The Sato Project' has only been open for a few weeks. Our tiny team is still in the process of getting set up and making sure we have everything we need to keep our operations running smoothly and keep all our dogs happy and busy. There are still a lot of supplies we need: toys, bones, other enrichment items, grooming supplies and more. Click here to order items from our Amazon Wishlist that will be sent directly to our dogs in Puerto Rico. Thank you for helping each one of our satos stay happy, safe, and loved at all times.
15 satos fly in-cabin to their new lives
Clockwise from top: Mighty Oscar, Sirena, Ceilo, and Irene meet their new families for the first time after arriving on their Freedom Flight.
Mighty Oscar was found dumped in a trashcan. Sirena and her puppies, Blue, Cielo, and Pecoso were rescued together from the street. Our 'flower pups', Zinnea, Pansy, Irene, and Petal, were found abandoned in a box by the port on Dead Dog Beach. Now all of these satos (and more) have begun new lives with loving families.

A dozen lucky satos have already flown in-cabin to their forever homes this month. And three more pups - Kirk, Sandro, and Tirso - are getting ready to fly out later this week!

Thanks to our amazing flight volunteers, all of the satos mentioned above plus Lola, Willy and Chilly flew comfortably in-cabin to meet their new families. Sirena’s fourth puppy, Snowball, didn’t have to fly to her forever home. She found one right here in Puerto Rico with a friend of her foster mom.

Tirso will head straight to his new family as soon as he lands on Saturday, while Sandro and Kirk (who are still adoptable) will go to foster homes.

Are you thinking about expanding your family? We have quite a few adoptable dogs still looking for their new homes! Visit us on Petfinder to meet some of them or submit an adoption application to let our team play matchmaker.

Lola's Howling Success
Top left: Lola right after she was rescued. Top right: Lola and her friend, Rio, sitting under a car by the rainforest where they were found. Bottom: Lola showing off her fabulous sato ears! Since their rescue in May, Lola and Rio have both flown to new families and officially begun their new lives of comfort and safety.
A kind woman named Molly was hiking in the Puerto Rican rainforest when she came upon two abandoned satos, Lola and Rio. They followed her along the rest of her hike and back to her car. She didn't know what to do, so she reached out to our team. Thanks to Molly offering to foster them, we were able to take both dogs into our program.

Lola and Rio were both very skinny and had mange. On top of that, poor Lola was positive for ehrlichia (a blood disease from ticks) and had a rock and metal ball in her stomach. Rocks and other objects are common to find in dogs who have suffered from starvation.

Though Lola had a rough go at life so far, she quickly accepted the love of humans and fought hard for her new chance at life. She became healthy enough for adoption and was swept up by Denise, whose family was mourning the loss of their dog Kasey. Their pup Max was taking the loss of their four-legged family member the worst and was clearly missing his companion.

Denise heard of the The Sato Project a couple of years ago through her brother who is a supporter, and remembered to check us out. Denise says: "While looking through the available dogs I came upon Lola’s picture. The thing that attracted me to her at first was one thing-those EARS! I loved them. They were so unique. After reading more about Lola and her story, my heart broke for her. That’s when I decided to reach out. And within two weeks I was meeting her at the airport."

Since Lola's arrival on July 14th, big brother Max has been showing his new sister the ropes of the household, and the best sleeping spot in the house … Mom and Dad’s bed! Sometimes the goofy pair take up more room than their humans but Denise said she wouldn’t have it any other way. She also tells us:

"Honestly Lola is an angel. Sweet as can be and just a delight. She has been an absolute dream addition to our family. Her foster mom told me how sweet she was and how much she loved everyone and it is so true. She likes to be snuggled and carried. She has really taken to our family and our home. Conversely, we have all been smitten by her too."

Congratulations, sweet Lola. We are so grateful that our community was able to lead you to the life you always deserved.
Left: Lola's ears were the first thing that made her mom fall for her. They even reminded her of Baby Yoda. Right: Lola with her new brother, Max, who immediately welcomed her into the family and is thrilled to have a new companion.
The Sato Project is dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico, where there are an estimated 500,000 stray dogs and a combined euthanasia rate of 94% across all municipal shelters. In 10 years, we have rescued nearly 6,000 dogs, rehabilitated them with the highest standards of veterinary care, and found them loving homes on the mainland U.S. We are also working to make permanent change on the island through community outreach and no-cost spay/neuter and vaccine programs.
