Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) 2023 Board Elections

- Looking for Two Rural Representatives

Submission Deadline:

October 11, 2023

SARM is looking for elected officials who would do an outstanding job representing rural Saskatchewan on the SAMA Board.

Candidates will be elected by delegates at the 2023 SARM Midterm Convention for a three-year term and may be reappointed to subsequent terms.

Those interested should submit a completed Nomination Form (to Laurel Feltin - lfeltin@sarm.ca) by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2023. A confirmation email with further instructions will be sent.

The seven-member SAMA Board of Directors is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and consists of:

three members named by the Ministry of Government Relations including the Board Chair;
two members named by the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM);
one member named by the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) for urban and northern municipalities under 30,000;
one member named by SUMA for cities with a population exceeding 30,000

Feedback Wanted on Employment Standards Provisions of the Saskatchewan Employment Act and Regulations

The Government of Saskatchewan is asking for public feedback as part of its review of the employment standards provisions in Part II of The Saskatchewan Employment Act and the accompanying regulations.

A discussion paper is available at www.saskatchewan.ca/government/public-consultations and focuses on:

Application of employment standards and definitions of employer and employee
Hours of work
Wages and regulation of tips
Job protection for ill or injured employees
Employment leaves
Layoff and terminations
Authority of employment standards officers

Interested individuals can provide their feedback by October 31, 2023, on the paper or on any aspect of employment standards via email at legislation.labour@gov.sk.ca or in writing to:

Food Waste Prevention and Diversion Fund

Environment and Climate Change Canada

Environment and Climate Change Canada is pleased to announce the launch of the Food Waste Prevention and Diversion: Research and Capacity Building fund.

When food and other organic wastes are disposed of in landfills, they produce methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. Municipal solid waste landfills are responsible for almost one-quarter of Canada’s methane emissions, which are generated when biodegradable waste decomposes. Cutting methane emissions from all sources, including landfills, is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to combat climate change.

Municipal, local, and Indigenous governments are best positioned to advance food waste prevention and diversion across their communities. This funding aims to help foster collaborative partnerships, increase knowledge of best practices, and bolster initiatives related to food waste policy and programming across Canada.

Applicants can submit their project proposal before 3:59 p.m. EST on Monday October 30, 2023. All projects must be completed by March 31, 2026.

Saskatchewan On Track To Exceed Target Of Re-Building 100 Bridges Over Four Years

Eleven rural communities will receive nearly $4.9 million in provincial grants from the Rural Integrated Roads for Growth (RIRG) program to rebuild 14 bridges and large culverts.

Animal Health Week Proclaimed in Saskatchewan

Agriculture Minister David Marit proclaimed October 1-7, 2023, as Animal Health Week in Saskatchewan. The week recognizes the high level of care ranchers provide to their livestock, the veterinarian-client relationships that inform animal care decisions and the links between human and animal health and the environment.

Crop Report for the Period of September 19 to 25, 2023

Many producers have wrapped up harvest with 91 per cent of the provincial crop in the bin, ahead of the five and 10-year averages of 73 per cent. Producers around the province are eagerly waiting for rain.

Anthrax Case Confirmed in Ruminant Species in RM of Cote No. 271

Saskatchewan Agriculture is reminding producers to be on the lookout for anthrax in their animals after confirmation that anthrax has been found in the RM of Cote #271. Anthrax was confirmed by laboratory results on September 25, 2023, as the cause of death in one cow and is suspected in two additional deaths in the same herd.

Minimum Wage Set To Increase October 1

On October 1, 2023, minimum wage in Saskatchewan will increase to $14 an hour.

The Government of Saskatchewan announced in May 2022 that the minimum wage in the province would be incrementally increased over the coming two years.
