Coming up...the second weekend of the

Indianapolis Early Music Festival

July 7, 8. and 9

Weekend 2

Feature

Friday, July 7, 7:30 PM

Kaleidoscope

Six Centuries of recorder music from the Renaissance to the present.

Flute Alors! from Montreal

This recorder quartet features Alexa Raine-Wright, winner of the first Indianapolis International Baroque Competition, and Vincent Lauzer, Audience Prize winner in that same competition.

Both of these performers enchanted listeners when they competed.

They are performing music for recorder consort from the Renaissance to the present, truly a kaleidoscope of musical offerings -- Purcell, Vivaldi, Bach, even a piece by Alexa's mentor, Mattias Maute. The program ends with an arrangement of that ancient early music favorite,

The Girl From Ipanema!

"Recorders on the Run"

A free family concert by Flute Alors!

Treat the children in your life to a wonderful experience and don't worry that they will be too noisy! This program is aimed at young listeners who will have a chance to hear delightful early music and, after the concert, go onstage to meet the performers and see the instruments close up.

"Deep River, American Spirituals

My Mother Taught Me"

Countertenor, Michael Walker II, Countertenor,

and Alchymy Viols

Praised for his "luminous tone, weighted with pathos" (Upstage), countertenor, Michael Walker has performed oratorios and recitals throughout the United States and abroad. He frequently sings in historically informed performances ranging from the Early Renaissance to the Late Baroque eras. As an interpreter of early music, Michael has been a featured soloist with Alchymy Viols, Mon Choeur, Echoing Air Concentus and the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project.

While he was in Indianapolis, he served as a board member of IEM.

This is a program comprised entirely of American Spirituals, arranged by black composers including the famous William Dawson and Moses Hogan and rearranged by Michael and the Alchymy Viols for this ensemble.

Just sit back and listen as Michael shares his heritage.
