Are you 14-18 years old and want to step up your leadership role in Routt County 4-H? Jr. Leaders are ambassadors to Routt County 4-H, help put on 4-H events and are Jr. Superintendents at the fair. Join us for our first Jr. Leader meeting next Wednesday, January 22 at 6pm in the Trout Creek Room.

in Denver. Registration is CLOSED.


Please note, any cancelations made AFTER the deadline will not be reimbursed, and members must pay the full $350 if they cannot attend.

February 2, 12:30-2:30pm, Steer Weigh-In at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden. Cost is $5 per animal. Please have the Weigh In Form completed before arriving at the scale. You must be enrolled in Routt County 4-H with all fees paid (including any past due fees). Questions? Take a look at the handbook section that discusses spring weigh-ins.

February 9, Winter Carnival Parade - Routt County 4-H is in the Diamond Hitch Parade! Join us on foot, or a pair of skis to partake in our Diamond Hitch graciously provided by Del's Triangle Three Ranch and one of their buggies! Please fill out the Google Form if you would like to participate!

February 9, March 9, April 13, 12pm-2pm, Winter Horse Rides at the Routt County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena. All 4-H Horse members are welcome to join us every second Sunday to come and ride their horse with their friends.

February 11, February 25, March 11, March 25, April 8, April 22, May 6, 6pm, Dog Classroom in the Routt County Community Room (135 6th St).

February 18-20, 2-4pm, Sample 4-H! Blues Break Camp. Join us for 3 days of sampling 4-H projects. $10/day. RSVP early before spaces fill up.

Are you going to the National Western Stock Show? The Routt County Extension Office has 20 Day Passes and 6 Medallions for Grounds Admission. First come first serve. Please email Millie if you are interested in any of the passes.

The 2024-2025 4-H Year is HERE! Returning members who did not sign up by December 31st will now be charged a $30 late fee!


If you are not in good standing with your club, you will NOT be allowed to compete at Completion Weekend, Exhibit Day, or the Routt County Fair. This will make you INCOMPLETE in your project. You are responsible for making your required club meetings.

High Point

January 12, 2025

On Sunday, January 12, Jessica called the High Point 4-H Club meeting to order at 2:17pm. Tim and Erick lead the pledges, and Jessica completed roll call. The secretary report was waived due to them being absent, but Hayley waived the report and Tim seconded. There were no changes to the account. Jessica then gave a Council Report and announcements.


Elections were held. Our officers are as follows:

Secretary: Maeve Benedetti

Elk River Wranglers

December 8, 2024

The Elk River Wranglers held their Decemeber meeting on December 8th. We welcomed new ebers and voted on new officers.


The new officers are:

We also made and delivered Christmas baskets for the senior citizens in our community.


January 12, 2025

Elk River Wranglers had their meeting on January 12th and went over normal business. We have four members going. toLDC at the end of January. Kyle reminded all the members to sig up for the Winter Carnival Parade on February 9th. He also encouraged us to attend the next Council Meeting in Hayden on March 5th. Our next meeting will be February 9th before the Winter Carnival Parade.

The Goodtimes 4-H Club held their officer elections during the January Meeting.

During the January Meeting, Ranch House 4-H Club discussed making Fairy Gardens for the residents at the Haven during the February meeting. They also discussed Fundraiser ideas that included summer BBQs at Murdochs and Ace, as well as a Bake Sale and Car Wash. Some fun activities were discussed such as Bowling, Tubing/Sledding, Ice Skating, and the Meeker Rec Center.


New club officers were elected. They are as follows:

Scholarships

Colorado 4-H awards scholarships annually to outstanding youth who have actively engaged in Colorado 4-H clubs for at least three years. The scholarship process is open from December 1, 2024, through March 1, 2025. Scholarship recipients will be announced in May 2025. There are opportunities available for all kinds of students, including those attending CSU or other universities, trade schools or junior colleges, transfer students, and continuing students. We encourage our 4-H participants to apply.

Canvas Foundation is offering 4-H Scholarships for members who are attending CSU. These scholarships are for $1000 per student. The deadline to apply is February 25, 2025. All scholarship recipients will be invited to the Canvas Scholarship Banquet which will take place in Thornton, Colorado on Saturday, May 10th, 2025.

Targhee Sheep Association - Starter Flock Program

Calling all young producers! Apply now for a chance to be awarded your very own sheep through our Starter Flock Program. This is an amazing opportunity to grow, learn, and make new friends. Applications due March 1, 2025 - apply today!

Suffolk Sheep Association - Ewe Grant Program

Routt County 4-H Sheep Members! Unites Suffolk Sheep Association Ewe grant program is designed to provide financial assistance for a young person in purchasing a registered Suffolk ewe for youth interested in starting a Suffolk flock. Applications are due March 1, 2025. For more information, visit the grant application.

Colorado State Fair Information -

  • Beginning in 2025, the Colorado State Fair will only accept DNA for identification, retinal scans are no longer accepted. DNA envelopes will be available for exhibitors to purchase around March 1st. Details will be posted on the website. Remember, it is the exhibitor's responsibility to order and submit DNA, not the Extension / FFA offices.  
  • We will continue to do family nominations, just make sure each exhibitor fills out a form listing all family nominated animals. We will not accept forms made out to the "Smith Family."  
  • The hog nomination form is a 2-page form and if you can copy it front and back, that will eliminate some paper in the notebooks.  
  • The procedures will be posted on the website, just not the forms as this office will not accept nomination forms from exhibitors.
  • Nomination Forms will be available to pick up during livestock weigh-ins. Forms can also be picked up from Millie at the Extension Office.
  • February 2 - Beef
  • May 4 - Sheep, Goat, Swine
  • The tentative livestock schedule and market deadlines will be posted on the website around the first of January.

Project Workshops - Click on the following links to see the tentative schedule for the following workshops. All members must be fully enrolled in Routt County 4-H before attending these workshops.

  • Team Robotics (10-18 year olds), 4:30pm - Starting January 7th
  • Cake Decorating, 5-6pm, January 21 and 28th. Please note, there will be a $10 fee per class to help cover supply costs.
  • Veterinary Science, 6:30pm - Starting April 7th

Routt County 4-H Cloverbuds

What is a Cloverbud? Cloverbuds are members from 5-7 years old who are not quite ready to participate in many of the projects and activities that the rest of the older 4-H members participate in.


What can Cloverbuds do? The Cloverbud program is focused on participation, teamwork, and learning (not so much on competition). Several of our clubs host Cloverbud events during their regular monthly meetings, and our Routt County 4-H Junior Leaders host 5 Cloverbud workshops throughout the spring and summer to get our youngest members excited about 4-H.


Enrollment - $15/Cloverbud Member
