Kielbasi Festival/Heritage Day A Huge Success

Saturday, May 21 was one of the hottest days of the year since August 22, 2021. What do both of these dates have in common? The Kielbasi Festival/Heritage Day! The weather wasn't the only thing that was hot! Thousands of people from our region visited Shenandoah and enjoyed three entire blocks full of food, beverage, arts, crafts and nonprofit vendors. The day began with a fabulous turnout for the Parade of Nations. It was colorful, musical and a wonderful celebration of the area's diverse cultures.
Every year a grand marshal is announced to lead the Parade of Nations and this year Geri Talerico graciously accepted the award to honor her late husband, Tom, Tally Talerico. Her son, Jeff joined her in the parade and during opening ceremonies where Senator Dave Argall. State Representative Tim Twardzik, County Commissioner George Halcovich, and Shenandoah Mayor Andrew Szcyglak presented them with a proclamation.
This amazing festival that brings thousands of people to Shenandoah is only possible thanks to the entire community coming together to do their part," said Susan Williams, DSI spokesperson. "From the behind the scenes volunteers who clean up the area before the event and set up early in the morning and clean up long after everyone goes home, to the Shenandoah Borough team who handle so many tasks before and after the event including the challenging task of removing the garbage, from all the vendors who bring their food and wares, to the parade participants who gather together to create a colorful show, to the first responders who are on duty throughout the event...the list goes on and on. It truly takes a village, well a Borough in our case and there are truly so many people to thank. THANK YOU!" This is a day that truly shines the light on Shenandoah, PA and celebrates the strong community that makes us who we are!
