Swift confirmation urged for ag negotiator
A coalition of nearly 100 U.S. food and agriculture organizations called for the prompt confirmation of Doug McKalip as chief agricultural negotiator at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
After the withdrawal of the previous chief ag negotiator nominee, the White House officially nominated long-time USDA adviser McKalip to the post in early June. McKalip currently serves as the senior adviser to the USDA secretary and has been with USDA for 29 years. Read more

Bill protects U.S. ag from foreign adversaries
Legislation introduced by Rep. Rick Crawford, R-Ark., and Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., the Promoting Agriculture Safeguards and Security Act, prevents foreign adversaries from taking any ownership or control of the United States’ agriculture industry.
As a response to reports of China threatening America’s food supply by acquiring U.S. farmland and agriculture companies, the legislators state the bill will ensure USDA is fully involved in reviewing foreign adversaries’ acquisition of American companies that may affect the domestic agriculture sector. JDS’s Journal Impact Factor increases to 4.225
the Journal Impact Factor, a measure that quantifies the average number of citations over a specific period, gives authors one tool to assess the quality of scientific journals. As such, the increase in JDS’s Journal Impact Factor from 4.034 to 4.225 is significant for the journal.
“The quality of research published in JDS has remained very high, even as the journal continues to climb in the number of papers published each year. We have a great source of pride in our authors and that they choose to publish with us when there are many choices available,” said Editor-in-Chief Paul Kononoff, PhD, University of Nebraska. “Our reviewers and section editors put in considerable effort to shaping that content to ensure JDS is an indispensable tool for all dairy scientists. It is gratifying that much of our content drives the growth, improvement, and sustainability of the world’s dairy industries.”
A Journal Impact Factor of 4.225 places JDS sixth out of 62 journals in the Agriculture, Dairy, and Animal Science category, which ranks JDS in the first quartile. In 2021, the journal had 77,957 citations to content published in 2019 and 2020. The journal also received its highest five-year Impact Factor (4.987), indicating that articles in JDS continue to be cited well beyond the immediate two-year period following publication. In the Food Science and Technology category, JDS is ranked 48th out of 143 journals, which is in the second quartile.
