Dear Oakies,
We were blessed to host all our Homecoming events on such a beautiful weekend; we truly could not have asked for better weather! Throughout the weekend we had over 200 of our alumnae, their families, and parents join us for the various events. What a wonderful way to kick off the year!
On a personal note, I am thrilled to share with you that my daughter, Ellie, has started as a middle schooler in the 6th grade at Oakcrest and joins 3 other alumnae daughters, Meg (Katie (Gabriel '99) Carney), Evie (Ursula (Syski '02) de Brey), and Lucy (Jacqueline (Livaudais '06) Callahan). I am so excited to share this journey with my daughter and look forward to her Oakcrest Graduation Day (2030!) when I, as an alumna, get to hand my daughter her diploma!
I look forward to seeing you throughout the year at our many alumnae events!

If you've forgotten which team you are on, no need to panic; we have the information to share with you. Go Green! Go White!

Pre-game Social
What an awesome space! For the Pre-game Social, alumnae and their families were treated to a delicious nacho bar, Chick-fil-A nuggets, desserts, beer and soda in the new 2nd floor commons area of the McGowan Family Athletic Center. Guests were able to watch the JV Volleyball team's win from the windows overlooking the court, with a direct view of the scoreboard. A dream come true!

Class Captain
Appreciation Breakfast
Class Captains gathered with Interim
Head of School, Christie Keuchel, and Associate Head of School, Cynthia Bertolini (Luisa '20) for a lovely breakfast complete with quiches, fruit salad, sweet treats, orange juice, and coffee. Great conversations and discussions were had, and each Class Captain received a beautiful notebook and pen set. We are so grateful for all the work that our Class Captains do to keep connected with their classmates!

Rose Procession and Mass
As is our tradition, reminiscent of an alumna's Oakcrest Graduation Day, before the start of one of our special Masses, our alumnae process into the Chapel with red roses for our Lady of Oakcrest. This year, 24 alumnae were able to join us for the procession. Thank you all for sharing in this beautiful tradition! If you would like to be part of the procession next year, be sure to RSVP for the Founder's Day Mass.

Alumnae Cocktail Reception
and Reunions
Over 60 guests filled the library for our Alumnae Cocktail Reception and Reunions this year! Members from the reunion classes of 1998, 2003, 2013, and 2018 as well as many other alumnae and their families, and faculty members joined us for a fun evening complete with: a new photo booth; posters featuring the reunion classes through the years; "Then" and "Now" videos with pictures collected over the years; special reunion gifts for each member of the reunion class in attendance; special cookies for the class with the most total giving last year (Class of 1999); and of course our very own Oakie Cocktail and Mocktail! We hope to see you all back next year!

Maria Alvarez Najera '17
For Maria Alvarez Najera ‘17, by the time she arrived at Oakcrest for her junior year of high school, she had already studied at four different schools, including a high school in
Shanghai, China.
“Being able to close my last two years of high school at Oakcrest was very important in my formation as a whole person both academically and as a practicing Catholic,” Maria said, adding that Oakcrest provided the support she needed to transition from high school in Shanghai to meet the demands of the 11-12th grade curriculum at Oakcrest while giving her the foundation to successfully apply to Medical School.
After graduating from Oakcrest, Maria joined the International Medical School program at the University of Navarre. The six-year program, which Maria completed in May 2023, prepares students to take the Spanish National Medical Test, which Maria will take in January 2024 before starting her residency in her yet-to-be-determined chosen specialty.
“I have enjoyed the opportunities to interact with patients throughout the different internships and rotations I have participated in during my program,” Maria said.

Our first alumna to return to Oakcrest as a teacher was Lisa Coyne '80 in 1993. Since then, over 50 alumnae have returned through the years as teachers, coaches, and staff members! This year Brigid Kilner '17, Christina Kilmer '16 and Elizabeth Mehan '06 have joined as members of the staculty. Welcome back, Oakies! | |
