Daffodil Bulb Pick-up Dates

The longstanding tradition of giving daffodil bulbs to residents continues this fall. One bag of bulbs will be provided per household. Please, no pick-ups for neighbors. The bulbs must be planted along the parkways, edging the roads of Long Grove with vibrant color, celebrating the transition from winter to the brighter days of spring.

The bulbs are on order, we’ll post pick-up information on our website, e-news blast, and social media channels as soon as they arrive.

School Bus Safety

With children back in the classroom, it is extremely important to be mindful of school bus safety. When approaching a school bus with yellow flashing lights, the bus is readying to load/unload children. When the bus has it’s flashing red lights on, and the stop arm is extended, children are boarding or exiting the bus.

On two-lane roads, all drivers are required to come to a complete stop when the buses stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing. If you are on a four-lane road in the opposite direction, there is no need to stop.

Drivers who disobey Illinois traffic laws surrounding school buses are subject to a mandatory $300 fine and a 3-month suspension of their driver’s license.

Practicing safe driving keeps our children safe. For more information on school bus driving regulations please review this helpful video from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Local Pageant Winner

Rachel Varghese of Long Grove won the title of National American Miss Illinois Junior Teen 2023 last weekend at a competition in Indianapolis. Ms. Varghese received her official State crown, banner and trophy, and will be eligible to compete in the National Pageant in Orlando Florida this November.

The National American Miss Pageants are dedicated to celebrating America’s greatness and encouraging its future leaders. Scholarships and prizes are awarded to assist the development of young women.

Congratulations to Rachel and her parents Joseph and Jinoo on this wonderful accomplishment.

Staying Safe at Halloween

As we transition to fall, children (and many grownups) look forward to the festivity of Halloween. It’s easy to get caught up in costuming and seeking treats, which makes it even more important to be mindful of safety. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reminds us to review the following safety rules with children prior to trick or treating:

• Don’t speak with strangers

• Ensure trick or treaters are accompanied by adults

• Young adults trick or treating should remain in groups

• Wearing reflective clothing keeping children visible to drivers

• All candy received should be inspected by an adult before it is consumed

Drivers should also be mindful of children who are easily distracted by the excitement. Let’s all work together for a fun, safe Halloween.

Please keep in mind the Village of Long Grove has no official trick or treat hours. We ask that residents make their own treat giveaway schedule. Participating merchants of the the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association will be greeting trick or treaters on October 27th, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

From The Road Feature

Roadway improvements throughout the Village were delayed slightly by the heavy rainfalls in early to mid-September. Work is now in-progress on West Creekside Drive, Arrowhead Court and Tribal Court. The infrastructure improvement project consists of pavement removal/replacement, pavement patching, and spot repairs on concrete curbs. With limited unforeseen circumstances and weather delays, the Village anticipates completing the work by early October.

The Osage Road sewer project was temporarily delayed as the Village works with North Shore Gas to locate underground gas lines so the project can begin. More details will be shared on social media and the Village website as that project takes shape.

Aptakisic Road – the Lake County Division of Transportation reports sidewalk construction is underway, and storm sewer installation has resumed. Also, the contractor began asphalt paving and work will continue until completed. They will pave on the north side of Aptakisic Road (stage 1) between Buffalo Grove Rd and Hilltop Rd.

Traffic Impacts: Please watch for workers and be cautious of trucks coming in and out of the job site.

Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we work to improve the infrastructure in our Village.

Uniting to Prevent Death by Suicide

September was designated World Suicide Prevention Month by International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). Campaigns such as this help raise awareness, provide hope, promote resources, and help people understand the signs of suicide. Suicidal thoughts should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues. Having suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, or background. Visit the National Alliance on Mental Health for more information and resources at https://nami.org/Home

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988, or visit the Crisis Care Program page for more resources at lakecountyil.gov/705

There is hope. Together we can unite can make a difference.
