Tis' the Season to Shop & Celebrate Local in Prescott

This Holiday season, remember to support Prescott's small businesses by shopping and celebrating local!

Downtown Prescott retailer Cozy Clozet, winner of Prescott's Best Decorated Holiday Business Window, has seen an increase in traffic as the season approaches.

"People are excited to be able to do so much of their Christmas shopping so close to home," said owner Cindy Casselman.

If the last minute gift you're after is clothing or home decor (and more!), Cozy Clozet and fellow RiverWalk District shop Once@426 have you covered, with curated collections of brand-name fashions and accessories. La Boutique Thrift offers a one-of-a-kind vintage finds just one block east in Downtown Prescott.

It's Yule season at Olde Magick, where you'll find holiday gifts for the modern witch and much more. At Oomen's Fishing Tackle, you can stock up on last minute gifts for the outdoors enthusiast in your life. Laurel & Lace's assortment of gifts, plants, and floral arrangements are perfect for any occasion, while AMayesZing Photography Gallery lets you bring Prescott art home in a variety of media.

Renegadz Restaurant & Bar Lounge, in addition to hosting a number of informal local business holiday parties, is planning a special New Years Eve event with Madison's at their new location at the Prescott Golf Club, with tickets available online. The Red George Pub has its own special New Years Eve menu on tap as well. O'Heaphy's Irish Pub is serving seasonal drinks, sharing the recipe for Rudolph's Red Nose, and hosted a special Breakfast with Santa on December 8th. Uptown restaurant Little Barcelona can take you on a holiday culinary adventure right in your own backyard.

The holiday season at Katarina's Coffee Shop means their signature Fruit Cake is back on the menu, along with Gingerbread Houses and Holiday drinks. Outpost Cafe posted a special Prescott Advent Calendar inviting customers to explore everything the Town has to offer over the Christmas season. Behind Tim's Fish & Chips Retro Holiday window you'll find Retro Tuesdays and poutine for every taste, and Nick's Restaurant and Bobby's Restaurant offer familiar favourites for your holiday nights.

Downtown Prescott's Cozy Clozet was selected by public vote as Prescott's Best Decorated Holiday Window

At Downtown Prescott crafters Co-op Quality Creations, Lead Crafter Jeanne Fox-Dibble sees a trend of shoppers looking for unique, hand-crafted, and local gifts to add a special touch under the tree.

The Holiday Elf has been bringing sales and specials to Watergirl Quilt Co. throughout the season, and A Craft Boutique has the perfect gift for the crafter in your life. Your Family Dollar in the Uptown Business District has your party supplies and snack essentials.

Prescott's Salons, like Curls & Cuts, LeMar Hair Collective, LC Hair, and Strands offer the perfect spot to get glammed up for all of your holiday events, and make an ideal gift certificate too!

You can find these businesses and many more to shop, dine, explore, and discover by visiting Prescott's Online Business Directory!

The Community Improvement Plan (CIP) Incentive Program helps support employment-oriented retrofits for new and existing businesses and supports local revitalization, beautification and economic development in the Town of Prescott by providing financial incentives for downtown revitalization, employment lands, heritage properties, brownfield projects, and housing developments like the redevelopment of the Davis Building Lofts (pictured).

CIP funding is available to businesses and private property owners to help offset project costs that achieve the Town’s community planning and development goals. Eligible projects can receive a combination of non-repayable grants, 0% interest loans and tax incentives.

Changes to Prescott's Curbside Recycling Program

Starting January 1st, new provincial legislation excludes the collection of recycling products from industrial, commercial, or institutional properties as part of free weekly collection. Under the new program, recycling collection will be funded and operated by producers of products and packaging rather than by municipalities, as has previously been the case. Circular Materials, a not-for-profit organization, is funded by producers and is responsible for overseeing this transition.

Although this is the existing policy with Prescott’s current recycling program, in some cases businesses were utilizing curbside Blue Box pickup, especially in the downtown core. If you have previously been using curbside recycling for your business, your recycling may not be collected after January 1st. Businesses most likely to be affected are those located in a stand-alone commercial property with no attached residential dwellings. As part of this transition, curbside pickup will also shift from alternating Thursdays to alternating Fridays.

After January 1st, concerns related to issues arising during pickup are to be directed to the contracted provider, Emterra, at 1-888-597-1541 or customercareont@emterra.ca. If your business recycling is not picked up after January 1st, we will be unable to assist you through the curbside pickup program.

Sign Permit Requirements and Associated Design Guidelines for Downtown.

Prescott’s Downtown & RiverWalk District Sign Design Guidelines help businesses create high-quality signage that enhances the community's visual appeal. Signs within the Downtown Core/RiverWalk District must follow the Downtown Sign Design Guidelines and Sign By-Law #16-2019. Business signs are vital for defining public spaces and adding character.

A sign permit is required before installing or updating any signage.

Placemaking asks people to collectively reimagine public space to maximize its shared value. It can take the form of events that draw people into a community, like the Downtown Prescott RiverWalk District’s King Street Promenade.

More than a sidewalk sale or an outdoor event, the King Street Promenade was a downtown street festival engaging community groups, residents, and visitors in public arts, live music, entertainment, and commerce, finding new uses for our re-emerging downtown spaces.

Thanks to My Main Street Community Activator funding, Prescott’s King Street Promenade helped activate the Downtown core and waterfront, drawing new visitors, engaging local residents, and increasing visibility for our downtown businesses.

Prescott's My Main Street Community Activator funding supports a number of placemaking activities throughout the Downtown Prescott RiverWalk District, including installations to reshape public engagement and usage, beautified pedestrian spaces through public art installations and greening initiatives, and a renewed wayfinding strategy to attract and retain visitors.

Placemaking activities will facilitate the creation of more inclusive and vibrant downtown public spaces for our diverse residents, visitors and businesses. This will contribute to the vitality of our downtown and businesses.

Thank you FedDev Ontario and the Canadian Urban Institute for supporting local communities and revitalizing main streets.

Visit our My Main Street project page to learn more about the RiverWalk Revival project.

Prescott Economic Development recently partnered with Environics Analytics, Canada's leading consumer and market research firm, to gather and analyze data related to Prescott's demographics, visitor traffic, and consumer behaviour. Each month we will be featuring a snapshot of this data. This month, we're highlighting visitors to the Downtown Prescott RiverWalk District.

You can explore Environics Visitor Profiles and learn more on their website.

2024 RiverWalk Wonderland Draws Crowd, Lights Up Waterfront

Prescott's 2nd annual RiverWalk Wonderland at the Prescott Pop-Ups drew large crowds to the RiverWalk District on December 6th & 7th.

The event kicked off at 5 pm on December 6th with Prescott's Annual Tree Lighting. This year's tree is a 25'Douglas Fir supplied by Green Things Garden Centre. Santa & Mrs. Claus visited with real reindeer for family photos, and carolers from the Thousand Islanders Chorus, along with George Tierney, provided live musical entertainment. Wagon rides carried visitors to and from the Downtown core throughout the event, with Downtown businesses reporting increased traffic during the event period.

Saturday brought live music from Brian McAuley and the C&M Ranch Petting Zoo, along with Downtown wagon rides and a vendor market featuring an assortment of local crafters, bakers, and seasonal Prescott Pop-Up vendors.

All weekend long visitors enjoyed free hot chocolate and a do-it-yourself s'mores station.

The seasonal lighting on the site will remain in place into the New Year!

RiverWalk Wonderland would not be possible without generous sponsorships from a number of local businesses, including Star Wellness and CSE Consulting (Wagon Ride Sponsors), Hometown Heating and Olde Magick (Reindeer Sponsors), KC Spencer & Associates (Petting Zoo Sponsor), and the South Grenville Beacon, Goldstar Bookkeeping, and Quality Creations (Refreshment Sponsors).
