Changes to Prescott's Curbside Recycling Program
Starting January 1st, new provincial legislation excludes the collection of recycling products from industrial, commercial, or institutional properties as part of free weekly collection. Under the new program, recycling collection will be funded and operated by producers of products and packaging rather than by municipalities, as has previously been the case. Circular Materials, a not-for-profit organization, is funded by producers and is responsible for overseeing this transition.
Although this is the existing policy with Prescott’s current recycling program, in some cases businesses were utilizing curbside Blue Box pickup, especially in the downtown core. If you have previously been using curbside recycling for your business, your recycling may not be collected after January 1st. Businesses most likely to be affected are those located in a stand-alone commercial property with no attached residential dwellings. As part of this transition, curbside pickup will also shift from alternating Thursdays to alternating Fridays.
After January 1st, concerns related to issues arising during pickup are to be directed to the contracted provider, Emterra, at 1-888-597-1541 or customercareont@emterra.ca. If your business recycling is not picked up after January 1st, we will be unable to assist you through the curbside pickup program.
Click here for more information about the upcoming recycling program transition.

Placemaking asks people to collectively reimagine public space to maximize its shared value. It can take the form of events that draw people into a community, like the Downtown Prescott RiverWalk District’s King Street Promenade.
More than a sidewalk sale or an outdoor event, the King Street Promenade was a downtown street festival engaging community groups, residents, and visitors in public arts, live music, entertainment, and commerce, finding new uses for our re-emerging downtown spaces.
Thanks to My Main Street Community Activator funding, Prescott’s King Street Promenade helped activate the Downtown core and waterfront, drawing new visitors, engaging local residents, and increasing visibility for our downtown businesses.
Prescott's My Main Street Community Activator funding supports a number of placemaking activities throughout the Downtown Prescott RiverWalk District, including installations to reshape public engagement and usage, beautified pedestrian spaces through public art installations and greening initiatives, and a renewed wayfinding strategy to attract and retain visitors.
Placemaking activities will facilitate the creation of more inclusive and vibrant downtown public spaces for our diverse residents, visitors and businesses. This will contribute to the vitality of our downtown and businesses.
Thank you FedDev Ontario and the Canadian Urban Institute for supporting local communities and revitalizing main streets.
Visit our My Main Street project page to learn more about the RiverWalk Revival project.

2024 RiverWalk Wonderland Draws Crowd, Lights Up Waterfront
Prescott's 2nd annual RiverWalk Wonderland at the Prescott Pop-Ups drew large crowds to the RiverWalk District on December 6th & 7th.
The event kicked off at 5 pm on December 6th with Prescott's Annual Tree Lighting. This year's tree is a 25'Douglas Fir supplied by Green Things Garden Centre. Santa & Mrs. Claus visited with real reindeer for family photos, and carolers from the Thousand Islanders Chorus, along with George Tierney, provided live musical entertainment. Wagon rides carried visitors to and from the Downtown core throughout the event, with Downtown businesses reporting increased traffic during the event period.
|
Saturday brought live music from Brian McAuley and the C&M Ranch Petting Zoo, along with Downtown wagon rides and a vendor market featuring an assortment of local crafters, bakers, and seasonal Prescott Pop-Up vendors.
All weekend long visitors enjoyed free hot chocolate and a do-it-yourself s'mores station.
The seasonal lighting on the site will remain in place into the New Year!
RiverWalk Wonderland would not be possible without generous sponsorships from a number of local businesses, including Star Wellness and CSE Consulting (Wagon Ride Sponsors), Hometown Heating and Olde Magick (Reindeer Sponsors), KC Spencer & Associates (Petting Zoo Sponsor), and the South Grenville Beacon, Goldstar Bookkeeping, and Quality Creations (Refreshment Sponsors).
