From the Flight Deck
Greetings!
I want to start off this week’s message thanking all our Legacy students, faculty, staff and parents for making this week a successful week of state testing. This week we will continue state testing with make ups as well as the state Civics EOC and the 8th grade statewide science assessment on Thursday. The Civics assessment is computer based and the 8th grade assessment is paper based. On Thursday all students will be in test sites the entire school day. Sixth graders will not be testing but will be reviewing for their CFEs which are also approaching soon.

This week was also teacher appreciation week. On campus we were proud to honor our teachers with a Star Wars themed filled week of fun. Thank you teachers for all you do!

Finally, as we enter into the last few weeks of school this is a reminder to all Jets that there are consequences for your actions on campus. The OCPS code of student conduct has all the rules you need to follow as a Jet here at Legacy. Let’s be mindful of our behaviors and finish this year strong. We have many exciting things planned for our 8th graders in recognition of their hard work over their middle school career.

Thank you,

Principal Jiménez

Student Spotlight
8th grade students who participated in the virtual author visit with Gordon Korman received a copy of his novel 'Unplugged' this week.
From Gordon Korman comes a middle grade novel about a group of kids forced to “unplug” at a wellness camp — where they instead find intrigue, adventure, and a whole lot of chaos.

As the son of the world’s most famous tech billionaire, Jett Baranov has always gotten exactly what he wanted. So, when his father’s private jet drops him in the middle of Little Rock, Arkansas, at a wellness camp called the Oasis, Jett can’t believe it. He’s forced to hand over his cell phone, eat grainy veggie patties, and participate in wholesome activities with the other kids.

At the Oasis, he meets Grace, who is his polar opposite. She thrives in the wellness atmosphere and resents Jett’s terrible attitude. Then there’s Tyrell, who suffers from a dizzying list of food allergies that render him constantly itchy. And also Brooklynne, a girl who definitely seems to be hiding something.

As the weeks go on, Jett starts to get used to the unplugged life and even bonds with the other kids over their discovery of a baby lizard-turned-pet, Needles. But he can’t help noticing that the adults at the Oasis are acting really strange…

Jett is determined to get to the bottom of things, but can he convince the other kids that he is no longer just a spoiled brat making trouble?

East River's Falcon Fly Out - Save the Date (May 11)
We wanted to ensure you had May 11th in your calendar for our 3rd Annual Falcon Fly-Out. This event will take place from 6pm to 7pm in our parking lot, East River High School. We encourage you, your teachers, and anyone that may have had an impact on the senior class of 2022 to attend! You are welcome to bring a tent, decorate your cars, bring noise makers, etc. Basically this is a car parade for our seniors as their last drive-drive out before graduation. We all cheer them on as they snake their way through our parking lot.
* This map may adjust slightly but you can see where we will have middle and elementary set up.

We recommend being on campus by 5:25-5:30PM to avoid any traffic issues and to set up your area.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to myself or Ms. Youtz, our senior class sponsor.

Food for Thought
1) Governor Desantis just signed into law a series of sales tax holidays which may benefit a number of our families:

May 14 - Aug. 14: Sales tax exemption on children's books

May 28 - June 10: Sales tax exemption on hurricane supplies

July 1 - July 7: Shoppers will be able to avoid paying sales taxes on such things as tickets for concerts, movies, ballgames and museum visits, as well as on certain gear for outdoor activities. For example, they will not pay sales taxes on the first $500 of the price of canoes or kayaks.

July 25 - Aug. 7: Back-to-school sales tax holiday. Shoppers will be able to avoid paying sales taxes on clothes and shoes that cost $100 or less, school supplies that cost $50 or less and personal computers with price tags of $1,500 or less.

3) WISDOM TO LIVE BY
Inspirational quotes at Mother's Day about a mother's priorities, appreciation for what your mother has done over the years, and how a mother has helped shaped one's life by successful people.
Michelle Obama On Priorities
I love our daughters more than anything in the world ― more than life itself. And while that may not be the first thing that some folks want to hear from an Ivy-league-educated lawyer, it is truly who I am. So for me, being Mom-in-Chief is, and always will be, job number one.
~ Michelle Obama, first lady

George Washington On Gratitude
All I am I owe to my mother.
~ George Washington, 1st US president

Alex Rodriguez's MVP
My mother's the most special person in my life ... I consider her my MVP: Most Valuable Parent.
~ Alex Rodriguez, baseball superstar

Booker T. Washington On Character
If I have done anything in life worth attention, I feel sure that I inherited the disposition from my mother.
~ Booker T. Washington, author

Michael Jordan On Confidence
My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind.
~ Michael Jordan, basketball champion

Mister Rogers On Perspective
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
~ Mister Rogers, TV personality
Remember Jets:
No matter how you feel,
get up, dress up, and show up,
but never give up.
