It's hot out there, Friend.
But we've been keeping our cool. We celebrated Juneteenth. We hosted MoMA curators. We held an alumni reunion. We planted Hopi corn. We BBQ'd for the 4th of July. We grooved to the Delbert Anderson Trio. We unveiled a new special assembly. And so much more! Check out what's up, and what's coming up, too.

Juneteenth Brings a Legacy of Rhythm + Resilience
|
Longtime friends of The Cosanti Foundation may remember our annual Juneteenth Jazzfests, held in partnership with Milt Cannon and the Prescott Jazz Society. Those events were one of the highlights of our event schedule for many years, but more importantly, they were Arcosanti's way of honoring Juneteenth itself. In recent years, the holiday — commemorating the day the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Texas, effectively ending slavery in every state in the nation — has finally received the national attention and recognition it deserves.
Juneteenth 2022 was a more intimate, low-key celebration than the full-blown Jazzfests of years past, but that only made it all the more beautiful and meaningful. Cortina Jenelle, who is currently participating in our first-ever Equity Immersion Residency, curated this year's event, which included exhibitions, readings, a dinner, and a short film screening. She also wrote about it for our latest blog post. Check it out!

This year's Juneteenth poster, created by Equity Immersion Residency recipient Cortina Jenelle, reflected the rich history of this holiday at Arcosanti and across America.

This display was part of several collaborative Juneteenth exhibitions installed at multiple points across Arcosanti that further illustrated the beauty and meaning of Juneteenth, and of Black and Indigenous culture

Looking for a summer getaway? Let Arcosanti be your destination!
Of course, you can always drop by for a day, take a tour, peruse our bells, grab some lunch, and hike our Visitors Trail. Even if you only have a few hours, the architecture and ecology of Arcosanti are yours to enjoy.
Stay a little longer, though, and you'll experience a whole other side of the arcology. Overnight guests enjoy custom-finished, air-conditioned accommodations and expanded self-guided access to Arcosanti, including our gorgeous mesa-side swimming pool, as well as our Minds Garden, with sweeping views of the Agua Fria River.
You can catch storybook sunsets and sunrises, night skies so clear you can see the Milky Way, and moonlight so bright you can read by it. You might also catch one of our epic monsoons, which are usually followed by enormous rainbows. Arcosanti makes a great home base for day trips to places like Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, Jerome, the Agua Fria National Monument, and the Grand Canyon.
Perhaps most importantly, as an overnight guest, you have a good chance of getting to know the folks who live at Arcosanti a little more. In our off hours, you'll find us holding potlucks, concerts, DJ and radio shows, karaoke nights, pool parties, board game nights, card game nights, barbecues...the list goes on. Overnight guests are always welcome to join us for these community activities.
Our guest rooms are open for the season (advance booking recommended). Our Visitors Center is open daily from 8 am to 4 pm through the summer. Our cafe—featuring local and Arcosanti-grown ingredients—is open for breakfast and lunch Thursday through Monday. Guided tours are available daily, and specialty tours can be pre-arranged.

We'd love to have you visit even if it's only for a short while, but if you have a little more time on your hands, consider some of the options for longer-term stays, from our signature multi-week workshops to full-time employment at Cosanti and Arcosanti.

Hello, Green Goddess
Meet the Green Goddess, an homage to the resilience of nature, and the newest bronze sculpture created by the artisans of Cosanti Originals. They combined materials and techniques new and old to create a one-of-a-kind work of art. This one is privately owned, but we've got plenty of other bells, jewelry, and art waiting for you.

New Roofs at Cosanti
This month, our ongoing restoration work at Cosanti received a big show of support from The Carlisle Companies in the form of a donation of sustainable, high-efficiency roofing materials for Pink House (the property's original ranch house) and Cat Cast. Thank you, Carlisle — your gift is making an enormous difference!

We Love You, Alumni (and Friends)!
A few weeks ago, we welcomed more than 100 alumni and friends (pictured here for our group photo in the Colly Soleri Music Center and Amphitheater) back to Arcosanti for our 2022 Alumni Reunion—our first reunion in more than a decade. Many of the folks you see here had a direct hand in the actual construction of Cosanti and Arcosanti, and many more have had a hand in keeping everything up and running in the years since primary construction was completed.
From June 24 through June 26, we shared in many of the longest-standing traditions of the Arcosanti community, including Italian Night dinner with pasta served from wheelbarrows, a "Welcome Home Holler" concert with Walter Parks, Frugal Soup under the Arcosanti Vaults, a special open-forum School of Thought, and a planting of Hopi corn with Michael Kotutwa Johnson. We loved hearing all the stories of Arcosanti's past, present, and imagined futures, some of them captured as part of our Alumni Oral History Project, and others as part of our Sunday morning feedback session.
We're working on developing all kinds of new opportunities based on the conversations and ideas that came up as part of that weekend, so thank you to everyone who participated! In the meantime, our Alumni Outreach Committee is always happy to hear from you, and you can get regular alumni updates from Arcosanti and our 8000 global alumni online, too.
