Download Mayor's Blue Ribbon Children's Commission Roadmap for Child Success

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's Blue Ribbon Children Commission has released its Roadmap for Child Success, made in collaboration with The Children's Trust and based on recommendations from The Mayor's Children's Summit in 2022. The document is ready and available for download at the link below.


How to navigate the Roadmap:

  1. The Roadmap builds on the success of child-focused organizations, creates a unified platform, and increases community awareness of best practices and available programming and resources.
  2. The Roadmap focuses on the “whole child” and promotes building stronger foundations for families, community equity, and public-private partnerships.
  3. The Roadmap provides guidance to local, state, and federal leaders on effective policy decisions and economic investments to ensure all children thrive from the start (ages zero to 5).
  4. The Roadmap is a guide developed by the Mayor’s Children’s Commission to make Miami-Dade County the best county in which to raise children and ensure their long-term success.

Project RISE's Upcoming Virtual Training and Open House for Providers

Ask-Listen-Encourage

June 13, from 10 a.m.-noon. Show the children and youth in your programs that you are interested in what they have to say. In this interactive workshop, youth development staff will learn how to ask effective questions, listen actively to youth, and offer encouragement beyond basic praise. Take an implementation plan back to your program.


Differentiated Literacy Instruction

June 21, from 10 a.m.-noon. Attention Certified Teachers! If you have not yet completed the Differentiated Literacy Instruction training, this is your last opportunity to get it done before summer! Learn how to use data from the ORF and Maze assessments to identify struggling readers and to develop reading intervention plans unique to each student. Attendees will also learn how to create a plan of action to differentiate reading instruction.

Florida Foster Care Review, which advances the safety, stability and success of abused and neglected children, youth and young adults by connecting them to essential services, healthy relationships and forever families, seeks caring community members to volunteer one (1) weekday a month for a minimum of one (1) year to serve on its Citizen Review Panel (CRP); volunteers must be at least 25 years old. The CRP conducts reviews over Zoom of active, judge-referred child welfare court cases.

Head Start Health/Nutrition Coordinator

The Health/Nutrition coordinator is responsible for health and safety related services for all children, parents and staff in the Head Start program. The position will determine each child's health status at the beginning of the year, and ongoing; assist parents in obtaining a source of ongoing health care, if necessary; and advise them of info regarding utilization of community resources and referrals for children and families medical needs.

Available Positions at Breakthrough Miami *

DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR: The Development Director will support the advancement functions of the organization, including building, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of donors for annual and multi-year gifts. The Director will focus on growing corporate giving. Responsibilities will include direct fundraising, fundraising activities coordination, stewardship and advancement-related administrative support in order to strengthen our work with donors and partners, thereby advancing mission, programs and impact. 


The successful candidate will be authentically committed to mission, and be a strategic, flexible, and positive thinker responsible for direct fundraising.


ASSISTANT SITE DIRECTOR: The Assistant Site Director (ASD) is responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of programs and services that most directly affect Breakthrough Miami Scholars and families. An ASD oversees campus or site logistics, unpaid student volunteers and some stipended positions, such as Teaching Fellows. As an ambassador of the program, the ASD builds supportive relationships with students, parents, schools, the community and other stakeholders to ensure the academic and socio-enrichment success of all Breakthrough Scholars.  


The individual in this role is organized, self-motivated and collaborative, with strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.


SITE DIRECTOR: The Site Director manages the staff and day-to-day operations of the school-year and summer programs at one of Breakthrough Miami’s six host school sites. This position is responsible for ensuring all program operations are aligned with Breakthrough Miami’s vision, mission and goals; and for continuously improving educational enrichment and operational processes.


The individual in this role is able to operate effectively in diverse environments, achieve outcomes in a flexible, fast-paced environment, lead change and inspire others to action, and communicate consistently and effectively.


SUMMER INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES: Summer Instructional Coaches (ICs) are experienced and successful professional educators who provide content-specific support for BTM Teaching Fellows throughout the summer and engage fully in the BTM community. ICs dictate the level of academic rigor during Breakthrough Miami’s summer program through their interactions with Teaching Fellows. They effectively communicate content specifics to Teaching Fellows, guide Fellows through effective planning and execution, and hold both Fellows and students to the highest standards. ICs are expected to lead department meetings, visit Fellows’ classes at least twice a week, evaluate lesson plans and curriculum overviews, and meet individually with Fellows regarding their ongoing work. Since ICs are the only professional teachers on-site, they are accountable for the quality of instruction students receive, and are responsible for supporting BTM Teaching Fellows through their teaching experiences. This role starts on June 10, 2023, and ends on August 4, 2023.


The individuals in this role must have a State of Florida Teaching Certificate or equivalent; an outstanding track record as a professional classroom teacher; exceptional interpersonal skills; the ability to deliver positive, constructive and honest feedback; and creativity, energy and commitment to excellence.


SUMMER SITE COORDINATORS: Summer Site Coordinators (SSCs) are critical members of the summer administrative team and help ensure the smooth and safe operations of the Summer Institute at their assigned site. SSCs train, coordinate and oversee volunteers; supervise the summer food service program for Scholars and staff; order and keep an inventory of program supplies; coordinate general office administration; manage the Scholar drop-off and pick-up process; and assist with the execution of special events. This position starts on June 10, 2023 and ends on August 4, 2023.


The individuals in this role must have a strong academic record with a minimum of two years of college completion; and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.


SUMMER ASSISTANT SITE DIRECTORS: Summer Assistant Site Directors (SASDs) work collaboratively with full-time directors at their assigned site to ensure a successful Summer Institute; and work closely with Scholars and their families, as well as Teaching Fellows to ensure their needs are met. This position starts on June 10, 2023, and ends on August 4, 2023.


The individuals in this role must have a bachelor’s degree; a high degree of flexibility in order to multitask between projects; exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in many different environments with people from diverse backgrounds; comfort and confidence in working with children and adults; and creativity, energy, and a commitment to excellence.
