MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
There's a lot of exciting DRI activity happening in the Village! We held our fourth DRI Local Planning Committee (LPC) meeting last week, where we learned more about three proposed DRI projects: the Sing Sing Prison Museum Preview Center, the Olive Opera House, and the Louis Engel Park Performance Space. You can view that meeting and those presentations at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKnLDUc0C0g.
We are holding our fifth DRI Local Planning Committee (LPC) meeting on Thursday, May 12th, from 6pm - 8pm. At this meeting, the Village will present its projects, including the Public Improvements as Part of Mixed-Use Redevelopment at the Main Street Lots, the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center Upgrades, the Wayfinding Signage for Downtown, among several other projects. At the end of the meeting, there will be a public comment period. This will be a virtual meeting held via Zoom.

Members of the public can view the meeting via computer or mobile app:

Lastly, it's not too late to share your thoughts about the proposed DRI projects. All project descriptions and a survey can be found here https://bit.ly/ossiningdri, or you can provide feedback here https://forms.office.com/r/mBW0XERU7X!

The survey will be open until May 20!
The Presidential Leadership Scholars (PLS) program is now accepting applications through July 10 for its 2023 class.

PLS invites a diverse network of established individuals to learn about leadership through the lens of the presidential experiences of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Lyndon B. Johnson.

Each year, a select group of mid-career professionals begins a journey to hone their abilities through interactions with former presidents, key administration officials, leading academics, and business leaders. Scholars gain the insights and skills necessary to work across divides and develop a network that spans traditional geographic, professional, political, and economic boundaries.
The Ossining Youth Council (OYC) is a community-supported, youth-led leadership program to promote a youth voice in Ossining. Those on this committee serve in an advisory capacity to the Ossining Youth Bureau (OYB). The OYC will lead the development and initiation of programs and activities while advocating for their peers in the community.

Community members between the ages of 13-21 are encouraged to apply.
For this week’s Work Session (5/11, 7:30PM over Zoom), the agenda will include the following topics of note:
The Village will be introducing a Flag Raising Policy, and we will be collecting the Boards thoughts on if and how the BOT should proceed with crafting such a policy.

As of June 8th, 2022, the Village will need a local law that allows for remote meetings under extraordinary circumstances (as per Section 103a of the Open Meetings Law) since the State of Emergency is scheduled to expire on May 15th, 2022. Corporation Council Kahan will be introducing a proposed Local Law for the BOT to consider—it is our hope to have this in place as close to the June 8th date as is possible.

As a result of constituent inquiries, we will be bringing forth a discussion about possibly pursuing a “Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon” on the School Child Warning signs on Route 9 (South Highland) at Nelson Park to further enable safe crossings—a resolution from the BOT would be required for the DOT to consider such an installation.

The Town of Ossining has taken up legislation to restrict the use of balloon and sky lantern releases to limit harmful environmental impacts. We are bringing forward this concept to ascertain if the BOT would like to do likewise.
