NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
On Tuesday, August 3rd, many San Jose neighborhoods will be joining over 38 million people and 16 thousand communities for National Night Out, a nationwide effort to build community/police relationships, heighten crime prevention awareness, and strengthen neighborhood spirit.
Beyond being a great opportunity to create a relationship with law enforcement, National Night Out gives us all a chance to spend an evening celebrating the uniqueness of our communities, getting to know our neighbors and bolstering public safety by creating familiarity with those immediately around us.

Even prior to the pandemic, I felt like we'd been losing our sense of community connection and sheltering in place only enhanced that. I, for one, crave events where I can be around people again and I am ready to share communities, lives and stories together.

Our office is planning a National Night Out event at Northwood Park. Join us at 6 pm on August 3. Look for more details next week on the exciting entertainment planned. Register here if you're interested in hosting one in your neighborhood. In future years, I hope to support many National Night Out events throughout the district.
Please reach out to my office if you'd like some assistance in organizing or promoting. We can also assist with resources as well. Let's work together to build a more cohesive, safer community.

Sincerely,
PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AND PROPERTY THIS FIRE SEASON
Fire safety and prevention is as much a concern for those vacationing in our forests as it it for those who live in areas at higher risk. I want to highlight some of the precautions that can be taken for both.

  • Keep your vehicle properly maintained with nothing dragging on the road.
  • When towing, make sure trailer chains are properly secured.
  • Never drive on or pull over on dry grass, which can start a wildfire.
  • Get a campfire permit and check for local fire restrictions.
  • Keep grass, leaves, and other debris ten feet from your fire ring.
  • Completely extinguish your campfire before leaving.

On Monday, July 26 at 2:00 PM, I'll be taking part in a Wildfire Preparedness Townhall in partnership with the office of Assemblymember Alex Lee, CAL Fire's Santa Clara Unit and the California Insurance Commissioner's Office. You can participate via Zoom, phone or facebook. If you'd like to join us via Zoom, please register here.
