What is a Limited Submission?
A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of proposals that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn coordinates limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady). To apply to any limited submission posted in this newsletter, click on the link below and search for your competition listed on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a list of requirements.

NSF INCLUDES is a comprehensive, national initiative to enhance U.S. leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) discovery and innovation, focused on NSF's commitment to ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in STEM fields, as communicated in the NSF Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years (FY) 2022 - 2026. The vision of NSF INCLUDES is to catalyze the STEM enterprise to work collaboratively for inclusive change, resulting in a STEM workforce that reflects the diversity of the Nation's population. More specifically, NSF INCLUDES seeks to motivate and accelerate collaborative infrastructure building to advance equity and sustain systemic change to broaden participation in STEM fields at scale. Significant advancement in the inclusion of groups that have historically been excluded from or under-served in STEM will result in a new generation of STEM talent and leadership to secure the Nation's future and long-term economic competitiveness.
With this solicitation, NSF offers support for five types of projects that connect and contribute to the National Network:
- Design and Development Launch Pilots,
- Collaborative Change Consortia,
- Alliances, (Please note: Auburn currently has an active Alliances Award)
- Network Connectors, and
- Conferences.
All NSF INCLUDES funded projects must operationalize five design elements of collaborative infrastructure - (1) shared vision, (2) partnerships, (3) goals and metrics, (4) leadership and communication, and (5) expansion, sustainability, and scale - to create systemic change that will lead to the substantially broadened participation of individuals from historically excluded and undeserved groups in STEM.
Institutional Limit: 1 proposal per project type
Internal Deadline: August 26, 2022 4:45 pm

Since the 2015-2016 academic year, the LAUNCH Innovation Grants Program has provided 20 awards totaling over $750,000 to Auburn PIs to further develop their innovations to advance them towards commercialization. While many of these projects are ongoing, six of them have successfully advanced towards the market in the form of license deals or follow-on funding.
The Office of Innovation Advancement and Commercialization, or IAC, announced that the 2022-2023 LAUNCH Awards will again use the accelerated timeline introduced last year. This allows for earlier access to funds for award winners. Instead of running across both fall and spring semesters, awards will be determined before Thanksgiving.
For more details on LAUNCH and on this year's schedule, go to IAC's LAUNCH webpage. Please note that any LAUNCH applications must be related to an invention disclosure already on record and active with IAC.
Applications Due: August 8, 2022 4:45 pm

Building a Research Agenda — How Does the Water Flow?
A Virtual Stakeholder Engagement Workshop
August 11, 2022, 1:00-3:00 pm ET
ORAU’s Research and University Partnerships Office, in partnership with Florida State University (FSU), is hosting a virtual stakeholder engagement workshop on Water Quality and Public Health. We invite interested faculty, researchers, and students at your institution to attend this event focused on discussing research gaps and frameworks to advance water quality science. The President’s Executive Order lays out a responsibility to “improve public health and the environment; to ensure access to clean air and water; and to limit exposure to dangerous chemicals and pesticides.” The Administration is establishing an Office of Environmental Justice within the Department of Health and Human Services, which will focus on climate change impacts to the environment and associated impacts to health based on where people spend most of their time.
Developing the Research Agenda and How You Can Help: To develop a comprehensive research agenda, ORAU and FSU are interested in gaining your input on how we can adequately address the following questions:
- What should the research areas be?
- What questions should the government and/or academia be asking?
- What are possible priorities for future research?
- What strategies/approaches/challenges should be proposed for possible projects?
ORAU and FSU want to lay the foundation for where academic research and government operations and services need to be in 5, 10, and 20 years. The output of this Research Agenda is designed to inform the government and academia and set up the framework for more detailed research to support the Improvement of our nation’s health and environment.

The ERC program supports convergent research (CR) that will lead to strong societal impact. Each ERC has interacting foundational components that go beyond the research project, including engineering workforce development (EWD) at all participant stages, diversity and a culture of inclusion (DCI) where all participants gain mutual benefit, and value creation within an innovation ecosystem (IE) that will outlast the lifetime of the ERC. The logical reasoning that links the proposed activities to the identified goals for each ERC should be clear.
Mandatory LOI Due: September 2, 2022 5:00 pm
Mandatory Preliminary Proposal Due: October 3, 2022 5:00 pm
Invited Full Proposals Due: May 8, 2023 5:00 pm
