TTC Bloor Yonge updates

Project/construction updates

Phase one of utility relocations on Bloor Street East completed

The TTC has substantially completed the first phase of sewer and hydro relocation work along Bloor Street East.

This was the first phase of work done to prepare for the modernization of Bloor-Yonge subway station. The planned station renovation will include the expansion of Line 1 northbound and southbound platforms, a new second platform to enhance capacity for eastbound passengers on Line 2, platform reconfiguration to enhance capacity for westbound passengers, a new barrier-free entrance to the south side of Bloor Street East, and modification of the existing main entrance.

The procurement process for the Bloor-Yonge Capacity Improvements Progressive Design Build contract is advancing well, and the Request for Proposals (RFP) closed on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The vendor proposals will now be evaluated, and the contract awarded at a TTC Board meeting in early 2025. Once on-board, the contractor will work collaboratively with the TTC to develop the design, as well as establish an implementation schedule for future construction. This phase is expected to last for approximately two years.

No impacts to subway service or access to Bloor-Yonge Station are expected during the remainder of preparatory construction works.

TTC and partners unveil mural celebrating Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Pedestrians walking along Church St. and Asquith Ave. may find themselves transported back to 19th-century London, with the completion of a mural celebrating the life, writing, and characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Developed in partnership with the TTC, City of Toronto’s StreetARToronto (StART) program, the Toronto Public Library (TPL) and the Friends of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection, the mural spans construction hoarding between 830 Church Street and the Toronto Reference Library. Phase one was completed in December 2023, while phase two of the mural was finalized in October 2024.

The mural was installed on hoarding that was put up due to construction for the TTC’s Bloor-Yonge Capacity Improvements Project. The site will be home to a future fan building to enhance air circulation at the newly renovated station. Read more
