Spokane Association of Realtors executive officer Rob Higgins
to retire, nationwide search underway for successor
After more than three decades at the helm of the Spokane Association of Realtors, Rob Higgins announced he is retiring as executive officer by the end of the year.

The Realtors association announced Higgins’ retirement via social media Wednesday. A nationwide search is now underway for his successor.

“After 37 years, I think now is a good time for me to move on to something else,” Higgins said in an interview Thursday. “What is next for me is up in the air right now, but I’m looking at different opportunities.”

The Realtors association hired Chicago-based recruitment firm Martin & Downs to conduct a national search for its new executive officer.
The SAR has contracted with the executive search firm Martin & Downs to find its next Association Executive.

Ginger Downs is a past Controller at the SAR.

The public documents concerning that search are shared here.

The Spokesman-Review Publishes Special Housing-focused Inserts

Two housing inserts, with content focused for buyers and sellers, were published in Wednesday's edition of The Spokesman-Review, this week. Members of the SAR Communications and Membership committees served as a focus group to the editors for story ideas and content. The SAR did not control, and did not pay for, the researching, writing, and printing of these inserts. We estimate these inserts to have an earned media value on housing issues of more than $100,000.

R Pins - Tell People Who you R!
Last week marked the return to in-person orientation for new members at your SAR, after a two-year pause due to Covid restrictions.

Every new member in an on-boarding session is presented with a REALTOR® pin (pictured).

According to association records, more than 600 brokers joined us during the pandemic shutdown and did not receive in-person orientation. These members may not have received their R-pin.

If this includes you, please know you are very welcome to stop in at your SAR at your earliest convenience and receive your R-pin so you can tell your clients and friends who you R!

Shaping Spokane Housing
Residential Development Code Initiatives
The City of Spokane is considering code amendments that will be foundational to increasing housing supply, variety, and affordability.

The current conversation at City Hall addresses development of attached houses (townhouses), duplexes, accessory dwellings, smaller multifamily projects, increasing the number of homes allowed per acre of land, and permitting for a wider variety of housing types generally.

What do you think?
The City of Spokane
 wants your feedback!
City has identified seven code amendments that could be included in the 2022 Plan Commission work program and would be adopted as changes to the Spokane Municipal Code as early as spring 2022.

You can review a description of each proposal on the project webpage, which will be updated as the draft revisions evolve.
