CHAMBER UPDATES | APRIL 29, 2022
Chamber Members-

As I type, the backdrop of a spectacular sunset at Pebble Creek Golf Course gives me pause to think about how golf has affected my life in a positive way over the years. There have been so many great memories with business clients, friends, and family members at courses local and across the country. I began playing when I was just 12 years old, that was 48 years and over 1000 rounds ago.

We have two wonderful golf courses in the Colerain Chamber. Pebble Creek, which has hosted a variety of events including our most recent Awards Dinner, our April Women’s networking luncheon and our growing golf league on Wednesday evenings. We also have Clovernook Country Club as a member. Clovernook is a well-established and amazing private club that will host our upcoming May Women’s networking luncheon, as well as our Third Thursday New Member Reception on May 19th. I hope all of you can come out and experience Clovernook if you haven’t done so already, but more importantly welcome our newest members with open arms.

Most of you have heard by now that the vintage 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings are coming to Colerain Park on July 3rd to play the “Colerain Chamber All-Stars”. Baseball is also a passion of mine, having attended my first game at Wrigley Field in Chicago in the summer of 1969, one hundred years after the first professional game here in Cincinnati. This will be a charity event supporting several of our non-profit members in the process and giving back to the community on one of our special holiday weekends.

I grew up just a few hundred yards away from harness racing in Chicago as well. Why does that matter you ask? Well…Miami Valley Gaming (long-standing chamber member) was a spectacular host for our Third Thursday last week. Those individuals that were able to ride in the pace truck on the track with the horses, had an experience of a lifetime! Thank you to Laura and Christina for being wonderful hosts!

Finally, the FC Cincinnati soccer team will host a group of Colerain Chamber members for an outing next week on Star Wars night (May the Fourth be with you!) and we look forward to sharing an evening of celebration & relationship building one header or corner kick at a time. FC Cincinnati owner Jeff Berding was one of our Hometown Heroes a couple of years ago and the new TQL stadium is a wonderful venue!

I’m thankful for sports in my life and glad that many of you can appreciate how and where sports can intersect our Chamber of Commerce. If you've been unable to attend events or participate because of your child's softball, baseball, soccer, gymnastics or other events, that's where you need to be; however, if you’ve been able to carve out some time and are wondering where to plug in, be sure to check out all of our events including our Hometown Hero celebration on June 16th at Willow Event Center. That night, I can guarantee a wonderful evening of food trucks, beverages of all kinds (bourbon taste testing for all this year), games, silent auction & raffles (including a Wheelbarrow of Cheer) along with some new & special surprises.

If you are happy with your chamber experience, please be sure to tell a friend about the Colerain Chamber or bring them to an event. We are excited about the summer options for everyone and hope you are able to plug in where you can.

What did professional baseball look like in Cincinnati in 1869? Brothers George and Harry Wright ruled the ball field, leading the 1869 Red Stockings to an undefeated season that spanned the United States. Players wore no gloves, and the uniforms and rules of the game were a bit different from what you'll see at Great American Ball Park today.

The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum's 1869 Red Stockings vintage baseball team endeavors to bring this history to life through various events and activities that further its mission, expose that history and vintage baseball to new audiences, and bring attention to the Reds Hall of Fame, while engaging Reds fans everywhere.
