Dear Students,
As we approach the end of the Fall term, I am grateful for the many excellent conversations I have had with members of our graduate and professional student community, and for the constructive feedback and suggestions received during the course of these discussions. I am particularly appreciative of the ongoing dialogue with both the GSS and the GPC on matters related to graduate and professional education. I am excited to say that we will formally begin our PhD program review process in January 2023, with program reviews being held monthly by the Doctoral Council during the academic year over a 7-year cycle. Student input will be vital to this process, and student members of the Doctoral Council will engage with PhD students within each department/program prior to the scheduled review to gather (anonymous) feedback.
On another note, I would like to draw your attention to the opportunity to apply to be part of the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society; I would also like to highlight the four students from A&S who have been selected to attend the National Humanities Center Podcasting Winter Institute (details below).
We have much to be excited about in 2023, including a compelling slate of programming organized by The Graduate Center. I wish you all happy holidays, and look forward to welcoming you back in January.
Warm regards,
-Vijay K. Ramani, vice provost for graduate education and international affairs

The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society 2023 Application is Open
The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society at WashU seeks to develop a network of preeminent scholars who exemplify academic and personal excellence, foster environments of support, and serve as examples of character, leadership, advocacy, scholarship, and service for students and postdocs who have been traditionally underrepresented in the academy. In the spirit of Edward A. Bouchet‘s commitment to these pursuits both in and out of the academic realm, inductees into the honor society bearing his name also exhibit these qualities. Applications are due January 20, 2023.
