December 2, 2022

Happy Friday,

We have several performances coming up in the month of December! Monday, December 5, the 3rd-grade Beginning Orchestra will perform at 7:00 pm at NBJH. Then on Wednesday, December 7, Junior Band at 7:00 and Thursday, December 8, Sinfonietta Orchestra 4 & 5th will perform at 7:00 pm at NBJH. We are also excited to have the Winter Sing back this year. A Walk in the Woods will be held on December 9 in the large gym (enter through Door D). Mrs. Blair has planned a wintertime-themed performance highlighting music and art inspired by famous poems and childhood favorite stories. Many thanks to Mrs. Havelicek and Mrs. Hernandez for the student art displayed throughout the halls for the performance.

Below are the times for each performance.

  • 1 & 2 grade 9:30 am
  • 3 & 4 grade 10:15 am

Trimester one progress reports will be made available electronically later today. Please be sure to look for an email with instructions on accessing the reports for your children. I'm very proud of our Westmoor students and the hard work and effort they have shown!!!

Have a great weekend,

Mary

Cold Weather and Snow Gear!

Now that the weather is much colder, we would like to remind students and families about the district weather policy. The District 28 policy is: Students go outside for recess every day as long as the "feels like" temperature is above 10 degrees. Please send your student daily with the items they will need throughout the day. Once we have snow on the ground students must have boots, snow pants, and gloves to play in the snow.

2023-24 Calendar Approved

The Board of Education approved the 2023-24 calendar at its Nov. 29 meeting. The calendar mirrors this year's calendar and follows the same breaks and most holidays as Glenbrook High School District 225.

The district calendar for 2023-24 is based on the start and end dates as well as major holiday breaks in the Glenbrook High School District 225 calendar. Although there are some differences with parent/teacher conferences, professional learning, and some holidays, the calendar follows the high school as much as possible.

The first day of school will be Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023 for K-8 students and Thursday, Aug. 24 for Young Explorers, and the last day of school, if no emergency or snow days are used, will be Friday, May 31, 2024.

Podcast Episode Focuses

on Community Building

Students meeting in ‘Packs’ and flashing hand signs in the hallways? It’s all part of Greenbriar School’s efforts to build community and belonging.

In the second episode of "Insight 28," our new podcast, listen in as Superintendent Dr. Jason Pearson discusses the program with Principal Dr. Ginny Hiltz, School Psychologist Greta Montagano and Social Worker Meghan Dames.

During once-a-month meetings, the whole school is divided into small groups comprised of students from every grade alongside teachers and support staff. Data shows the program has been a key component in building student-teacher trust and enhancing the building culture at the school.

The podcast is available through our website, Apple Podcast, Spotify, Google and many other podcast services.
