Get to know your Vestry- Q&A with John Bray
During Mother Nikki's sabbatical, the Friday newsletters will feature one Vestry member each week. Please thank them for their service to the congregation, and let them know if you are able to assist with their committee's work!

Q: Name?

A: John Bray, 3rd year on Vestry

Q: What's your committee assignment?

A: Adult Spiritual Formation. Our committee is active throughout the year on Sundays with special programming for Advent and Lent. We have many ongoing programs, including:

   * Sunday Morning Bible Discussion Group

   * Wednesday evening programs (3 weeks during Advent and 5 weeks during Lent). These programs are topically organized.

   * Sacred Ground- a 10-week program created by the Episcopal Church to promote transformative dialogue circles on race and racism

   * Hebrew Class

   * Lectionary Class

   * Parish Library

   * Spiritual Life Movie Series.

Our Chair is Ellen Richardson and other current members include Ron Balthazor and Wade McGlamery. Our librarian is Richard Cooper. We invite others to join the committee, participate in events, and assist with facilitating. No PhD or MDiv required!

Q: What's the best part about serving on Vestry?

A: I very much enjoy the Tuesday meetings. It's wonderful getting to know everyone.

Q: What's has been the biggest challenge on Vestry?

A: This year it has been time management and very low energy. I think the low energy is due to everything surrounding the COVID years. I have a hunch we'll see the after effects of the pandemic for years to come.

Q: What would you tell a person considering serving on the Vestry?

A: Do it! You'll meet wonderful people.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I'm a playwright, an action figure collector (Batman, Star Wars, and He-Man in particular), and I have nearly every CD Tom Waits has ever appeared on. I used to belong to the Hudson Valley Sciontists, a Scion Society of the Baker Street Irregulars (a community dedicated to Sherlock Holmes and "the game") and was quite active. I'm glad Sherlock Holmes has become so popular in recent years!

Come join us this month, on Friday, June 16, when we will watch Field of Dreams (1989)! “Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella is inspired by a voice he can’t ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe. Supported by his wife, Ray begins the quest by turning his ordinary cornfield into a place where dreams can come true.”

Join us in Parish Hall and enjoy some popcorn and soft drinks - or bring a blanket and a picnic dinner! The movie begins promptly at 7pm.

Shifts Available

Family Promise has some shifts June 4-18 at the Milledge Avenue Baptist Church shelter that need filling as there is no host congregation for these dates. If you are able to take a shift, they would be grateful! Sign up by clicking here.

For more information, contact Annette Bates via email or 706-255-5839. St. Greg's next committed week begins August 13.

Coffee hour needs your help! Danielle keeps us well-supplied with coffee and lemonade, but we need parishioners to sign up to bring either homemade or store-bought goodies…nothing fancy, just cookies, muffins, fruit, pastries, or cheese/crackers. There is a sign up sheet next to the kitchen counter in the Christian Education building.

Remember: Coffee Hour is an ideal time to meet and get to know our visitors and newcomers!

The Parish Life committee will meet at 10:30AM Saturday, July 8 for planning mixed with a bit of tidying. Come join this fabulous group of gregarious Gregorian party planners!

Doug's Ordination to the Priesthood

Doug's ordination to the priesthood is scheduled for Saturday, June 24 at 2PM, at The Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta.

If you are interested in carpooling to this event, either you need a ride, or are willing to provide a ride to another, please contact LeeAnne Krause to let her know.

The dates for VBS 2023 are July 17-20, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM. During the week of "Compassion Camp: What Every Living Thing Needs," children will explore what all living things need to live - shelter, food, water, air, and community - and how they can have compassion for the living earth, especially their local ecosystem. Children will consider how to become co-sustainers and participants in the work of God's creation. Using Psalm 104 as a grounding text along with additional supporting scripture, children will examine the inter-connectedness of the whole earth.

Volunteer Needs: We especially need adults and/or youth to assist with:

        Music during Nightly Opening and Compline

        Bible Teaching and Stories

        Decorating the Parish Hall in advance of VBS

In addition, we could use a couple extra helpers each with Arts/Crafts; Games/Movement; and Food Set-up and Clean-up.

Jerry Leon Chappelle

November 14, 1939 - May 30, 2023

It is with great sadness, yet with hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you of the death of Jerry Leon Chappelle on May 30, 2023. Many St. Gregorians know him as the potter who, with his wife, Kathy, designed, constructed, and installed our Memorial Wall outside Parish Hall, called Sunrise Tomorrow. It was installed in November 1981 in memory of their son, Marc. For Jerry's obituary, click here.

Adult Spiritual Formation

The Adult Spiritual Formation Sunday morning Bible Study group meets at 9:15AM and is currently on a journey through The Book of Acts of the Apostles. Please join us!

The food bank is in need of dried beans of any kind, and large, family-size containers of cooked cereals (i.e. oats, grits), not individual packets.

Let's help fill the Little Red Wagon!
