It's not an April fools joke, it really is Spring.  April is a month for warming temps and blooming flowers, if they can poke themselves through the snowpack!!  Here in the library we have several interesting and fun programs planned for this month.  A month long we'll be celebrating those poets among us because this is National Poetry month.  At the end of the month we'll have a visit by the most famous poet of all, the Bard himself as played by actor Stephen Collins.  The adult services department is encouraging all to keep a poem in your pocket and the Children's department will be holding all kinds of fun and exciting programs during vacation week.  Stop in and see us and come away with a poem in your heart.

See you soon,

Nevins Memorial Staff

April is Poetry Month!!

Every April, on Poem in Your Pocket Day, people throughout the United States celebrate by selecting a poem, carrying it with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day as schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, and other venues ring loud with open readings of poems from pockets.  Sponsored by the Academy of American Poets, the event is meant to encourages individuals around the country to join in and channel their inner bard.

This year Poem in Your Pocket Day will be held on April 30th and the Nevins Library is joining in the fun! Come to the Library that week and pick up a Poem for Your Pocket! Library Staff will also be working with the Methuen Senior Center, Methuen Village and other places in the community to make sure everyone is sharing and appreciating poetry!

For more information about Poem in Your Pocket Day, or to talk about your organization participating in this event contact Sarah Sullivan, Head of Reader Services at 978-686-4080 ext 20.

A Visit from The Bard

Actor/teacher/tour guide Stephen Collins returns with his one-man Shakespeare Monologue Show. Join us to see Collins' one man show Shake-Scene which has been met with rave reviews. Shakepeare wrote to be listened to, not read, and Stephen, with his "pitch-perfect" performance, will do justice to the Bard. And what better way to celebrate National Poetry month!

Literacy Volunteers of Methuen is Calling for Volunteer Tutors

Volunteer tutors are matched with people who want to learn English, and they work one-on-one to help achieve the student's learning goals. Volunteers need not have any special background or education, they simply must be over 16, high school graduates, and possess patience and the time and interest to help others.
